Glad to see you're feeling chirpier this week Doc! Just for the record, I'm not really that clueless about weight, nutrition, etc. (I was a Fitness Instructor many moons ago) - I was just throwing out a few 'puzzlements' and trying to be a bit humorous in the process...

Glad you had a nice day Warra! Anna

I only get grumpy when people misrepresent/misquote science (or rape the English language).

Or if I am hungover.

On days when both occur, all hell breaks loose and Greg steps in and kicks me back into line!

Interesting article here on "beer bellies".

The original study that I remember was a Dutch one that linked food associated with beer drinking and "beer bellies". It was conducted in the '90's and would take a bit of finding.

BTW, Anna, the country was Lithuania, (amongst others).

Well, that's that I reckon! Can't argue with a 20,000 drinker survey I guess. Thanks Svyturys. I'll look forward to developing a beer belly!

I'm a somewhat tall bloke, 6'1", or 185 cm. Really, I'm on the short side for the average clogwog these days.

4 months ago I was 107 kg. I'm now down to 99 kg.
How have I done it?
Simple. I just eliminated any simple sugar, whether direct or processed, in my diet. I do nothing else, no sweating or extra physical jerks, no limiting food, no limiting my beer intake, just the elimination as far as possible of simple sugars.
If you want to know more, read the book "Sweet Poison".

Am 191cm and 114kg.

Yep, BMI is really just a one-size-fits-all guide.... But even at 90kg when I was playing basketball and tennis every week, I was on the cusp....

183 cm and 90kg. I fluctuate between 88 and 92kg.

Up 5kg from my weight during footy season but since i retired 2 seasons ago the exercise has stopped completely......

According to the BMI calculator (which I disagree with on the basis its far too general and doesn't take into account body shape, muscle mass, bone structure etc) I need to lose 10kg.

Funny this thread should pop back up.

I'm down below 85kg for the first time since the early 90s not long after i moved out of home.

I was 95kg at the start of the year and have exercised twice in that time.

I simply reduced my food and alcohol intake - the old energy in vs energy out equation.

Shocked myself by getting into a pair of size 32 jeans on the weekend.

Still aiming to get down to 80kg and the weight loss has plateaued in the last month so its time to dust of the rowing machine and attempt some aerobic fitness.

According to the BMI calculator (which i notice actually puts in a disclaimer about body shape) i am back in the healthy range but i still think its too vague a measurement.
