Guys,

this is a weird one...

My brother and a few of his mates were at a local microbrewery, when after a certain beer, they all started sneezing uncontrollably and their noses started running like they had hayfever? there must have been something in the beer that they reacted to.. has this ever occured to anyone else?

I dont know what beer it was, but i read that some beer can contain histamine which causes symptoms similar to hayfever, and the presence of alcohol reduces the body's ability to break down histamine which makes the problem amplified....

I just dont know how/or what leads to its production in beer... just another one of those biochemical reactions i guess...

Hey man... leave the beer out of this! Like, what did it ever do to you?

In all seriousness, I'd be surprised if it was anything in the beer that provoked the reaction. I'd be looking for other environmental factors first - is it possible, say, for airborne pollen, dust, etc to have blown in to the area where they were drinking?

I have a friend who goes into anaphalectic (sp?) shock every time (twice, years apart) he drinks CPA. It is an obvious allergy to something in this particular beer, but he is not sure what. He has drunk quite a few beers from around the world and has never had the same reaction which eliminates the obvious hops, yeast, etc. Not much help, but sort of supports the possibility of your frirends reactions being from the beer.

Wow, that's a hell of a reaction. I wonder if it could be caused by a specific yeast strain?

Dragging up yet another old post ... if there were preservatives in the beer it may have caused a reaction like this. A lot of wine drinkers will tell you that certain wines can, to varying degrees, have this effect due to the preservatives in just about all wines.

Hahahaha, that's actually scary for some people. The actual episode would support making your own.
