Relax, Paul. Mine haven't showed yet, and if I'm correct, then my cascade plant is the father of yours, so yours still has a ways to go.

No they haven't.

I'm not too concerned......yet. But I do check everyday like the impatient bugger that I am.

My potatoes on the other hand are flying!

Relaxing and cracking a beer right now. Yes, you are correct that your cascade plant is the father of mine. If yours hasn't sprouted yet then I'll stop singing and reading bedtime stories to mine. I am a liitle surprised that yours hasn't sprouted though, as a few people on that "other" site have bines up to the top of the fence, or at least halfway up. They are all second or third year rhizomes though.

Perhaps your generous nature has conspired against you and you've doled out too many cuttings?

Think a lot of it would come down to climate too, mate.

I think that would have more to do with it, yeah. Was just taking the piss. :D

I planted a couple of rhizomes just this morning. A Chinook and a Columbus. they were pretty fat with a handfull of shoots starting to appear but no smaller roots. I'll be interested to see how they go in comparison to the Cascade which has been in the ground for longer but is a smaller rhozome.

I'm thinking a 3C AIPA harvest ale next autumn. Mmm, yummy.

I doubt the torrential rain we've had all weekend has done my hops any favours.

Nah, mate. They love The rain. My Perle has just popped up it's first shoot of the season.

My first two plantings have shot. The POR poked it's head up last weekend, and Chinook on Wednesday.

Except weeds invading the garden.

My Columbus and Chinook have fired a few shoots. Two from Chinook and three from "Chris". All about an inch high at this stage. Slugs and snails are proving to be a problem thus far. I can't use snail baits as I have dogs but have a semi effective solution in "baiting" them with an offcut of broccoli. I put it out the night before about a foot away from my hop plants and when I get up in the morning usually find a couple of slugs and or snails on it. Then chuck it in the wheelie bin with slugs and snails attached. Or apply salt if I woke up on the wrong side of bed!

The Cascade is sleeping in. At least it will be refreshed and full of energy when it eventually gets up and going.

Only plant of mine to have popped up is my new PoR. Cascade and Perle are still to have shot up. Thinking about moving them to a sunnier part of my garden (where my PoR is), but that'd be a massive pain in the proverbial considering the trellises are already up.

Pet friendly snail bait is available.

Jello - don't be too stressed as yet. If by the end of the month they haven't shot then dig them up, take a photo and PM me. If they are no good we'll work something out.

I'm not stressed anymore. I think your Chinook has sprouted. I'm not entirely sure, but it doesn't look like a common weed that i'm used to in my garden. My Cascade is yet to show itself though.

Thanks for the help drs

Mine looked kind of like the tip of an asparagus spear until the leaves unfolded which took around five days to start happening.

I only planted mine a few days ago, they had sprouted in the fridge :D
I'm not concerned, I don't live in queensland so conditions are different of course, I bet they are nearly harvesting by now

Finally put some string in place to allow them to climb. Cascade is already 3/4 the way up the fence (~1.8m tall) and the chinook is now winding up. Victoria is going slowly but looks very healthy.

I'll be organising some string this weekend. If i don't, i just know i'll be caught off guard.

Hurry up and sprout cascade!!!

Still nothing from my cascade.

My Chinook threw up four sprouts, the longest of which got to about 25mm then it stalled, stopped and the sprouts died off and wilted. I am thinking that this is the stage at which it would be putting out loads of roots and will soon be going spazz all over my fence. Well, I remain somewhat hopeful anyway.

The Columbus, which I have nicknamed Chrissy, (lame I know) has about six shoots, the longest of which is a foot up the adjacent string, is growing about three centimetres a day and a noice, healthy, dark green colour.

Likewise on the cascade. I don't hold out much hope for it now.

My chinook is doing nicely though. A little more sun would be nice.
