The 20ltr Jerry Can Rip-off

Hello all,

I bought a cube a little while ago for racking and purchased it from BCF for about $20 plus $3.50 for a tap(home brew stores taps are $4.50), anyway that was fine as I had a Gift voucher with $22.60 left on it so the cube was only $0.80 in total..

Went to bunnings, cubes are $16.95, so if anyone wants to buy one, do some research as the cost difference can be alot..

Back onto the topic, Bunnings 20ltr Jerry Cans are $24.98, I thought stuff that, i'll check out BCF, BCF has jerry cans for $19.95, beauty I thought, so I bought one.. I told the lady at the counter about how BCFS cubes are $3 dearer than Bunnings and she proceeded to tell me how they deal with SuperCheap Auto and their prices are cheaper for certain things..

So I pay for the jerry can($19.95) and just ducked into Supercheap to have a look(only 5metres away) and here are the jerry cans(the better blue Willow ones) for $16.99 and the one I bought for $15.99..

Pissed off, my jerry can will be going back for a refund or I will ask them to give me a tap to make up for the difference in price..

So for Cubes or Jerry Cans, dont just buy the first thing that comes along, ring around and check out the prices, shit the differece in a jerry can between Bunnings and Supercheap was $9...

20ltr Jerry Cans @ Bunnings $25 plus tap

20ltr Jerry Cans @ Supercheap Auto $16-$17 plus tap

Taps from most places $3.50
Taps from local HBS $4.50

Difference on Cubes $3
Difference on Jerry Cans $8-$9
Difference on Tap $1

taps at Bunnings $1.80 the white ones.
At that price I don`t bother pulling apart to clean, just chuck em after a bit of use and put a new one in.

Keep an eye on fleaBay for these things.

I recently picked up 6x 20L water containers (camping style cube ones) with drain/tap outlet for $26 for the lot.

They were previously used for distilled water and they are spotless.

I have found that the IGA above Paddys Markets in Chinatown Syd has some good things like fine sieves and pots and stuff - even black taps exactly like the brigalow ones. A caveat: my brigalow tap leaks...

Maybe they just know that people who go camping, fishing etc will just go to BCF to buy there stuff, hence the reason for the higher price.

Sh!t, its amazing the people you see go in there(BCF) and just buy stuff that you can get cheaper elsewhere, but they obviously dont give a sh!t as they can just get everything in one place for their Boating, Camping or Fishing.

A few weeks ago when I first got some steeping grains, I bought a nice handy little 6 pack cooler esky from The Warehouse(Silly Sollys) to steep my grains, it cost $8.99 and in the Coleman brand from BCF they cost $19.95.

Anyhow, today I went and had a look at an independant camping store and the same brand new esky I bought for $8.99, they were trying to sell for $19.99.
F--k me, I thought, I just want to say something to them about it being twice the price, but, shit, I so feel for very small business trying to survive and if people are willing to pay, so be it...
