Private messaging

Postby Oliver » Friday Feb 01, 2008 6:12 pm

Hi all,

There had been a lot of requests for private messaging and I'm interested to know if many people are making use of the feature now it's enabled.

If you are using it, what sort of communication are you using it for?

Cheers,

Oliver

Never used it, and never received a private message either, but that may simply be a reflection that I'm not of much interest to other forum members.

I have already had to clear my box twice

So yeah... I use it a bit... mostly to help people with things that are not useful or important to the community.

So did I, I sent him a congratulation PM as I just noticed on his viewing profile he is aged 90
This would probably make him the oldest active brewer on the forum.
Well done Warra-keep up the good work

must be me then- why are you "helping people with things that are not useful or important"?
It doesn`t read right to me.

I am helping an individual to do something that would not benefit the community as a whole. Sort of like right now...

One example is all of the PM's that I sent back and forth to Ash when I bought the kegs from him, and after that when I tried a very nice Amarillo Pale Ale he sent me.

Also I have some people who message me and ask for private advice because maybe they are too afraid to look silly on the main forum? Not sure... but it happens...

So by turning the 9 upside down to make a 6, you`ve dropped 30 years and reverted to your correct age.
 Nice work

I don't know what's happening with Private Messaging.

Within the last week I've tried 3 times to reply to drsmurto, and tried to send a private message to Oliver.

I have a message when I submit that the message was sent, but then it stays in my outbox and doesn't appear in my Sent Messages.

Thus, I have no idea if it has really been sent, and why they stay in my Outbox, rather than in Sent Messages.

Is anyone able to enlighten me on this issue? What am I doing wrong, if anything?

Thanks.

Hi Warra,

As mentioned in my PM reply to you:

Private Messaging is set up so that after you send the message it will remain in your outbox until the recipient logs on next. This allows you a window to delete or edit messages before they're delivered, provided the recipient is not logged on.

Also, I'm not exactly clear on what happens if the recipient's inbox is full, but that could have something to do with it.

(DrSmurto, if you're reading this, is your Inbox full? Max is 50 messages across inbox, outbox and, I think, sent items.)

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Oliver
