Too many fakes

Postby Guest » Monday Jun 13, 2005 9:45 pm

Hi Oliver and Geoff,

I have found that there are a few fakes amongst us.

They are posing as Indians for example.

While this is a bit of a larf for some, I dont like the fact that they are able to incite arguments and not back it up with a name.

Also one person actively Trolls these boards, Grumpys, JM. AHB etc.

Its time to expose all the Multiple Nicks and Fakes.

Craig T.

Melbourne.

Craig,

What does "Trolls these boards" mean and why is it bad, ie, is it bad like someone can get hurt or just bad annoying? Really, I am as innocent as newborn when it comes to this stuff.

Dogger

troll

An electronic mail message, Usenet posting or other
(electronic) communication which is intentionally incorrect,
but not overtly controversial (compare flame bait), or the
act of sending such a message. Trolling aims to elicit an
emotional reaction from those with a hair-trigger on the reply
key.

Its an adaptation of

troll
1. To fish for by trailing a baited line from behind a slowly moving boat.

Where you are fishing for a heated response, rather than a fish.

On forums trolling generally leads to lots of angry people, lots of closed threads and a necessary increase in moderator presence and activity. It can also eventually lead to much stricter rules and regulations on a forum, or even its closure. Not particularly fun for anyone really.

Thank you,

That doesn't sound like much fun, why would someone reputedly grown up, want to do that?

No need to answer, it is rhetorical (sp?), I have a three year old too.

Guys,

I'm keeping an eye on the situation.

If it doesn't improve, I might look at making registration compulsory before posting.

Hopefully Munkee's shenanigans are stopped for good. I sent an email to him/her asking him/her to desist from posting the link to the search. He/she will be banned if it continues.

Im a member of a couple of other forum boards. ( Fishing ). And they require that you must register to be a member to be able to post. E.G Only logged in members can post. And a legitimate email is required to become a member. Whilst this doesnt entirely stop the nutters, it helps in keeping things under control, and preventing a great board from being ruined.

Keep up the good work Oliver, i visit more than i post....but i love your board !! :D

What is a proxy chain?
A Proxy chain is a connection of 2 or more proxy servers. ProxyWay allows to work with any Internet service through a proxy chain of SOCKS or HTTP proxies. Using the program you can create proxy services (cascades/chains) with any number of proxy servers (supports HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4 and SOCKS5) to provide IP address security and tunnel Internet activity through proxy servers.

I'd delete their posts too, think theyre trying to get their pagerank up by posting links to their site everywhere.

It was just a couple of "fake" users posting messages with links to sites selling cheap drugs.

I just deleted the messages for a while, but now I've banned them, too.
