Actually after doing all this reading I am quite keen to do a partial for my pale ale...
It is very interesting reading about beta and alpha amalayse...
Basically if you mash at below 65 you get a drier beer (simplier sugars) and above you get a sweeter more bodied beer (more complex sugars, less fermentable)
