Hi Sonny,

Interesting pic of the trailer, does it have a camo paint job?

Not sure of our next trip, I think the missus and i are headed to Dubbo this long weekend but will be hotelling it ..shock horror.

Prados = quite capable
I'm thinking of selling my single cab hilux and getting a dual cab / patrol wagon

Would love to see the pics but don't seem to be working.

We had a Rodeo dual cab which served us quite well, took it up the cape a couple of years ago camping in the back. If anyone goes up that way make sure you travel at least some of the old telegraph track, don't just stick to the bypass - you miss all the best places (and by that I'm not referring to hardcore 4WD places). Traded the Rodeo on a Ranger dual-cab about a year back but haven't had any big offroad trips yet, just down the local state forest.

Yep, me and the boys had a whole lot of different green shades of paint. What else would you do to hide the rust?
All of the gear goes into the big box, that table on top and the 2 burner BBQ ties on top of that. Now we have the 4x4 I have to get stuff in the back of it and onto the roof rack, don't want to have to rely on a trailer really.

The secret is get time off work and get in early, which I can't do either of. Lucky to get Christmas day off!! :x

Just got back from a week camping on the Merran Creek on the NSW side of Swan Hill. We normally camp on Speewa Island but its below the water this year so had to change spots.

Boys only, no fancy camping rigs just tents and swags. Cooking is done either on the portable bbq or in the camp oven.

My job is to bring the beer, 3 kegs this year. 1 x standard golden ale (i am not allowed in the car if i don't bring the GA), 1 x rye golden ale with homegrown chinook hops and 1 x english bitter. We have the kegs sitting in drums that were welded together by one of the boys who is a panel beater. Each morning we add a bag of ice to each drum and it keeps the beer cool all day.

We sit around the campfire drinking and talking shit, fishing (a few cod and silver perch (aka callop to those of up in SA) all released back) and a round of golf on the Sunday. One of the boys brings his tinnie so we have fun cruising about in that but its generally just relaxing and doing as little as possible. Stress free after a few days out there.

Hi Doc,

that sounds completely awesome!

Any pics of the camping beer set up available?

Do you use live bait to work the perch? or lures?

Camping setup? Do you mean the beers or the entire site setup?

Worms were used to catch the cod and perch.

Think he was referring to the kegs in the cut tubs Dr. Smurto.

Cool Doc,

No big drama if you cannot.

I'm trying to get away 4x4ing in 2 - 3 weeks time, wont have a keg system but hope to snag a few fish and put down some HB all the same

As a taster until i can find the pics here is a pic of a case swap held at my place. Several brewers brought along kegs and there were a variety of chilling/dispensing methods on hand. The fridge arrived on the back of someone's ute, that's not mine!

You can just see the bright yellow container in the bottom left of the pic which is what we use for camping.

May i submit my application to rent a spot on the carpet?
I'm tidy and only snore when drinking black beer...

Does the yellow mock esky do well keeping the kegs cold? I guess a better question was what was the temps like while you were camping

1 bag of ice was added each morning to the yellow bin. Served at below my preferred temperature so likely only a few degrees. We took one of those keep cold eskies that kept the ice frozen for 3 days before we topped it up on the way home from golf.

Not sure what the temperature was during the day but most of us were in shorts so probably 20-25C and sunny with quite cold nights as we huddled around the campfire after changing into pants/jumpers/beanies etc

Many a person has slept/passed out on that floor RUM!

I have one of those esky's and they are brillant, gets a work out over xmas keeping everyones drinks cool.
Think your on the money with your camp set up Doc, i must approach the minister of finance and re-neg on my allowance to branch into kegging.. It'd be a complete hit with our 4x4 group.

Sorry for the delay, I cant find any of my photos from last years camping trip.

So i took a couple of pics if the container closeup.

I take a converted fire extinguisher with me (3kg) that connects to 2 kegs at once. Each keg has its own picnic tap so there are 2 beers on tap at the same time.

Pic of the yellow container with another keg next to it to get an idea of the size/shape.

Close-up of the top showing you how it fits in. I add ~1 bag of ice around it per day and empty the water after a few days to slow the melting of the ice down.
Image

As you can see its very basic but out approach to camping is very basic too. No power other than the cars with a no radio/music rule for the entire weekend at the campsite other than for the grand final. No shower/toilet. Just boys/beer/campfire/campoven and the most relaxing 5 days of the year.

So we're back to the bigger-is-better theorem then, are we?

FYI, almost all homebrewers that I know who keg use the 19L Cornelius kegs that the Doc has showed in his pics. I have twelve of them myself. Why do you think that a 50L commercial keg would somehow make you a better brewer, or, for that matter, even remotely liked by the rest of us in this community?

Off camping again tomorrow, this time up to the Flinders Ranges with my partner.

Won't be quite so rough as there has been a lot of rain up there and we have a 2WD so will be staying at camping grounds with drop toilets! Oh the luxury.....

No camp oven either as paying money for wood or lugging our own up there doesn't do it for me (National Park) so have pre-pared a few meals already (spag bol, chilli con carne) and will be keeping it simple using the portable camp stove instead.

Also no keg setup, I will be bottling a few of my rye 'golden' ales instead using a CPBF.
