Ever had to prepare for a flood? I hadn't until yesterday.

BOM reckons there's over 70% chance that my town will be flooded by Friday. Local Coles has sold out of bottled water and there's bugger all canned foods left.

My street is the second-highest in town, which means our house should be fine, we may just be cut-off from civilisation for a few days.

Hope everything goes well. We usually get cut off from town at least once a year. Fill your bathtub with water and as many containers as you can. You probably won't be able to get anywhere but fill your car with fuel and any jerry cans as well, a flood can disrupt fuel supplies. It surprises me how many people up here don't fill there cars before a cyclone. Gas too for the BBQ or camping gear.

Just popped around the corner to the river.

All I could see of the fishing platform was about an inch of the very top of a signpost. There were treetops sticking out of the water about two metres from where it was safe to stand and a bicycle/walking path that runs under the bridge into town (the bridge that connects us to civilisation) had about 15m of it under water.

Just got word that the spill at the dam is supposed to occur in about 5 minutes, so I'd reckon that within two hours I won't be able to get to the next town over.

Good thing we have two pubs and three bottle shops here, right? :P

Two pubs and three bottle shops should get you through any natural disaster.

Water levels are subsiding and the bridge into town re-opened this morning. There's some more rain forecast for the local area but it shouldn't be enough to pose a threat of further isolation.

All that bottled water for no reason at all. Might throw it into my next batch and make a "natural disaster ale," or "fear-mongering media lager."

"Warragamba Spill Stout," anyone?

To make a truly unique memento of the event, use water from the river. :D

Getting flooded again. Worse this time around, they reckon. Apparently the bridge will be shut again by this afternoon.

Why does the river hate weekends?

Well I'm out with the missus this morning for baby-related appointments. Good chance we won't be able to get home, so may have to spend the weekend at my Dad's place.

No homebrew there so keep your fingers crossed for me that he has something more decent than Carlton Draught in the fridge.

Just a funny story about the start of my holiday to QLD. Arrived in maryborough about 6pm on a sunday night and was driving around looking for a bottlo to get a case. Thinking there wasnt going to be much i seen this pub with a drive through bottlo and was stoked that they were open. So I walked in and the joint resembled long bay jail with all the cages and bars. I asked the bloke what he had in cases and he says xxxx heavy xxxx gold xxxx summer and some other shit that didnt interest me. I asked what was on special and he said the summers were 30 bucks so i thought if i'm gonna drink crap beer I might as well pay bugger all for it. So I walk out dissapointed with my case of summers on my shoulder and what do I see across the road......? Dan Murphys
