Mountain Goat organic Steam Ale.
Just knocked off a stub of this , not overly exciting, surprised its been a award winning beer? but hey I'm no judge only a humble brewer.
Anyway it's def got some carbonation going, which I guess is steam style but it leaves a zingy tang on your tongue I think that takes the after taste out of it a bit.Thinking burp fest on a session of this stuff, glad it was a single.
I guess it's citrusy taste with some passion fruity peachy hints see's this a good summer light beer. Also has some grassy notes to bring it home which seem very Pride of Ringwood in taste.
Overall it's an ok beer nothing wonderful, I guess it's easy to drink and I can see why it's liked here in Aus.
I enjoy more body in my beers these days though.

On to the next taste test......

Had Mountain Goat Hightail & Steam ales and Vale Ale last night.

The local Liquorland is actually starting to care about good local beer!

Well as the weekend started at 6pm saturday night just the standard slab of Pale Ale and in the morning might be game enough to put a longneck of Canadian blonde in the fridge for tasting. Not many left as the missus hooked into them but I do want them to age as those are my payment for past lottos. Well hopefully 3 months is enough but the first glass will tell.

Cheers Bryan

Been working slowly thru some of the specialties from Red Duck. A couple of so-so beers, but a few crackers.

White Garden - a wheat beer with rhubarb and raspberry jam in it.
Dude where's my cherry - summer ale fermented with cherries.
Belgian Vanilla Porter - amazing. A porter with vanilla added, fermented with an abbey yeast.

Tonight I have a Gnaume lambic to try.

Four Pines Stout with a breakfast Turkish roll of egg, tomato, cheese and ham.

Four Pines is a great breakfast stout: Not too heavy, not too light. Just right.

Been on CSA and JSGA whilst down at the beach house in Pt Turton but had am having a very nice tempranillo from the coonawarra with my lunch of minestrone soup my partner whipped up and sourdough that I whipped up. I could get used to being this relaxed.

Had dinner at the Bright Brewery a week or so back. They have a few pretty decent brews on tap there. Unfortunately, they don't do tasting paddles on busy days, and the food was almost as bad as the service.

Clearly the service hasn't changed one iota since we were there three years ago. Fancy not doing tasting paddles on "busy days". Ever heard of putting on more staff?

On a happier note, I'm currently at the Royal Standard Hotel drinking a Southern Bay "Ocean Ale". It's described on the Southern Bay website as "A unique combination of NZ and US hops provide fruity aromatics with zingy grapefruit notes, which give way to a cleansing wave of bitterness."

Agreed. However, the entire spiel is a bit of a wank:
In this bottle, we’ve captured the essence of our Great Southern Land, bordered by the Southern Ocean. This micro-brewed pale ale’s warm malt character is shaped by the vastness of the open sea. Local, UK and German specialty malts are at its heart. A unique combination of NZ and US hops provide fruity aromatics with zingy grapefruit notes, which give way to a cleansing wave of bitterness.

Sea-born. Sensual. Sensational.
Nice beer though.

Very delicious Black Heart 'American Brown Ale' at the Court House Hotel. At cellar temperature. Lovely.

And Luke Nicholas from Epic Brewing in Auckland is at the next table!!! Lucky I wore my Lagunitas IPA t-shirt!!

Yeah that label is dreadful nonsense. I did enjoy the Red Duck labels, which just read, 'does not contain any real ducks'.

I had a bit of a beer revelation recently: Erdinger Weissbier.

I drink a fair few wheats, but I'd always considered Erdinger to be the poorer relation to Weihenstephaner, Schofferhofer and Franziskaner. But cor blimey, guv'nor, the Erdinger has got those elusive bubblegum tones that I rarely get from the other three. Oh well, I guess I better make up for lost time now!

Pretty sure it would read something like:

No carbonation or head to speak of.

Aroma of burnt inverse sugar.

Mouthfeel: has the viscosity of engine oil.

Tastes of maple syrup-flavoured vodka.

...can you tell that I'm not a massive fan of Belgians? :P

If that's what a quadrupel tastes like my bank account is about to get hammered. A bit like Tipsy I'd suggest.
