Breakfast Beer

Post by Gusto »

Finally - a beer to drink at breakfast
From correspondents in London
November 19, 2004

WATCH out Starbucks. British beermakers are wooing the caffeine-crazed with a new beer made from fair-trade coffee beans.

Coffee beans from the central African country of Rwanda are mixed with barley grown in Britain, creating a beer with the same amount of caffeine in one bottle as in a cup of coffee.

Drinkers can get an added buzz from the political correctness of their coffee, labelled fair trade - meaning it has been grown in conditions which ensure the fair treatment of and living wages for workers in developing countries.

British supermarket chain Sainsbury's is exclusively selling "Coffee Beer", which comes on the heels of strawberry and chocolate-flavored brews turned out by the same Meantime Brewery in Greenwich, southeast London.

After the success of strawberry in summer, "it seemed natural to have a more warming, mellow taste for winter," the supermarket said.

Coffee is a stimulant and alcohol is a depressant so would the net effect be zero?

Yeah, I'm with you Kozzi. I've had some hellish nights on the VARB's (Vodka and Redbull's). Don't know whether you're up, down, sideways...

Can't wait to try it really.

Actually, the more I think about it the better it sounds. It gives you half an excuse to get tanked in the morning and if anyone disses you about it you can tell them you're doing it for the plight of the Rwandan's. Politically correct alcoholism. Brilliant !

Sorry, but this has got to be one of the stupidist ideas I have ever heard of. Another ploy for breweries to market there product to "new age" losers.

Beer is good, because it tastes like and is beer, not because youv'e added caffeine or guarana (or any other type of stimulant).

More reason if you ask me to kept, brewing and drinking homebrew, and not support commercial breweries that market this type of garbage.

Evo,

I've only tried red bull and vodka once

It was at the wrap party for completing a seasons shooting for the kids television show SN:TV

Big shindig cause it gives a chance to network with the Nickelodeon execs who you don't normally see when shooting on set.

Needless to say I was tipsy knocking down the 4 grand bar tab, already had at least 10 beers under my skin and a couple of glasses of bubbly

Decided to go for the red bull and vodka cause it seems like a good idea when tipsy.

Thing knocked me out totally, my mate leon has never seen a guy go down so fast, first time i've ever had a hangover.

Don't remember the night after that, apparently i wasn't too popular

Didn't get asked to work on SN:TV again

Redbull is one of those caffienated energy drinks.

Mixing it with alcohol becomes what is affectionately known as a "bitch drink". Up there with Bacardi Breezers and Sub Zeros. Perhaps this "beer" would qualify.

Its definitely not on par with breezers and archers

those things have like 2% alcohol and taste like soft drinks

Red Bull and Vodka is basically a screw me over.

Cause you're mixing a depressant with a stimulant, and pretty extreme examples of both being vodka and red bull

One of the most shocking hangovers I ever had was after a few Voddy and Red Bulls.

(I figured that since I am full of bull I should be ok...)

Greg B

ps: a Beer, Red wine and Bundy Rum hangover was not as bad.

pps: they were not mixed in the same cup.

Yeah, I dunno about it being a chicks drink (and i'm not saying that to defend myself - I've been known to knock back a chick-drink know and then). Depending on how hard you hit it, the VARB is a pick me up slap me about and lay me back down on a bed of nails type drink. Thing is, it only sounds like a good idea at the time if you've started the ball rolling with something else.

By the time you realise you've done bad (the next morning) you feel like you've been b!tch slapped by King Kong. That said, I know I'll drink it again. I never learn.
