Egg Ale

After recent experiments by my colleague with Chicken Beer, I finally got around to making an experimental batch of Egg Ale, based on a recipe from an old book called Beverages, Past and Present.

This recipe contains eggs, beef gravy and sherry, among other ingredients. It has been fermenting for two weeks now and shall be bottled this weekend (it has cleared somewhat, but is a little cloudy).

The key was to ensure all was cooked before addition to the batch, ensuring no infection.

This has been made more out of curiosity than a desire for an easy drinking type brew. Shall let you know how the bottling goes!

Egg beer, it sounds like a true meal in a beer, all you need is to add roast beef

It was a close thing!

The egg beer has been sampled, and I have new respect for whoever decided a concoction like this was either a) healthy or b) an acceptable beverage for social occasions.

It has a sickly, pungent organic aroma, not unlike distilled rotten flesh, and after one sip your want for alcohol of any sort is cured for a considerable duration.

Having said that, a number of stubbies were bottled and will be brought out at about that point at a gathering that you want everyone to go home.

A new batch will be attempted at a later date, however egg yolk will not be used, egg white only next time.

Once a bottle has primed it will be chilled and tasted, probably by DGr and the results will be posted.

Did you guys by any chance get a copy of "radical brewing" and then take it upon yourselves to make something even more extreme?

I understand that experiments are part of brewing, but, holy crap...

and yeah, between the egg beer and chicken beer, try not to get a salmonella brewery going.

Why is it that I am always the one who has to be the guinea pig in Dawg waterer's experiments - methinks i shall buy a hipflask of vodka to take both before and after his eggy ale in the hope that this may kill off at least a portion of microbes within.

For those that have had the misfortune to log on to our website you will notice that the newest member of the Pyssedas Brewing Adventure [NSm] has named his first brew Salmonella Stout in honour of that noble germ. This is probably a little like sacrificing virgins to honour the gods (or something like that anyways).

Will report back once i have tasted - alternatively i shall request my wife posts here should I not make it. :shock:
