Spit or swallow

Post by mike P »

Hi Guys,

New to home brewying, girlfriend bought me the coopers brew kit for chrissy been hinting for months.
Question is it safe to swallow the ferminting wort or is it best to spit it out?
i read you must sample it to check for infections but is it safe to drink?

Have a simple Coopers bavarian larger about 4 days old so far all seems to plan :)

One day i will make my prize winning all grain Amber Ale

Swallow,

No question about it out. Someday when we are all older I'll tell you the difference between a spitter and a swallower

I'm a swallower. Wasting a drop of the precious liquid is sacrilege.

And in any case, you can't taste beer properly without swallowing, as the bitterness sensors are at the back of the tongue, and beer doesn't get there if you spit.

Cheers,

Oliver

I'm sure I've said Oliver's first line before in my life ;). Oh behave !

Yeah, put me down as a swallower. The last batch of bock I brewed was lucky to make it out of the fermenter. Not wanting to talk up my brewing prowess, but jesus it's a good drop. Even better cold and carbonated.

Ha ! Nice one.

...funny you should mention that though. Most of our mates have a dig about the name of the brewery (whilst supping free beer). Anyhow, after we punch them in the face and take their beer away we tell them the story of Ray and his mythological brew tales.

Well, Ray reckoned, that if you stuff up a beer and get an infection in it, it will grow what look like flowers in the crusty head of the fermenting wort.

That's where the name comes from, but can anyone confirm or deny this apparent phenomenon ? Please don't tell me Ray was bullsh!tting. It would be like finding out Santa wasn't real.

As it is so written thou must swallow .
Spitting is for soccer players and nameless political candidates(Apologies Oliver)
Must admit I always put the tube in the fridge whilst waiting for the head to subside.

Remember that goats are better than sheep in suspenders and always use maltodextrin because it gives good head.

Sago,

Do Velcro gloves work as well with goats as with sheep?

don't know about the velcro gloves Dogger, but if you wear gum boots (Wellington boots etc) you have somewhere to put the back legs and it leaves your hands free. A Kiwi mate passed this tip on to me!

(then again he may have been trying to fleece me)

Care should be taken with sheep as they can be dangerous. The enclosed is true.

(28 January 1999, England) A flock of sheep charged a well-meaning British farmer's wife and pushed her over a cliff to her death. Betty, 67, was charged by dozens of sheep after she brought them a bale of hay on the back of a power bike. The sheep rushed forward and rammed the vehicle, knocking Betty and her bike over the edge of a vacant quarry near Durham. "I saw the sheep surround the bike. The next thing she was tumbling down the incline," a neighbor told reporters. Her husband is being comforted by friends.
