Jack, why are you locking threads?

Other topics - beer-related or not.

I agree with Mr Magnay. This forum is shit now. I just want to trade information about brewing beer and value the input of Dogger and his similarly experienced ilk, and now I find I have to wade through 3 feet of bickering and petty bullshit from a bunch of wankers who are seemingly far more interested in carting their cross forum dick waving onto this site. I am not interested in going to another forum, this one has always been a great help to me, as has the whole site in general, so the whole bunch of these aforementioned pricks can go and f@#k right off back to where they came from, and all the worthwhile blokes can feel free to add to the site the way they were doing not that long ago.
Sorry, just my two bobs worth!
Actually, I'm not sorry at all!

The problem, as I see it, is that there is one member- Jack Sparrow- who has been set up as a moderator both here and at another forum, and is posting thread hijacks, irrelevant nonsense replies, and other bullsh it in in at least four HB forums, at the rate of 50+ per day.

I am trying to talk to Oliver- I have emailed him twice today- about getting some order back on the boards here.

JS, and any one else, before you get sand in your knickers, just let me say this:

Jack, you should not be a moderator on a board/forum, and be offering to send members of that forum details of other forums- it's not polite.

You should not inflame members who are arguing about non-brew related issues.

You should not post other peoples' (note the multiple) contributions, recipes etc. on other forums without giving them due credit. Especially when you are posting recipes with potentially fatal flaws in them, like confusing extract for yeast, (as you have done in your re-posting of one fellow member's recipe) or when your posts state things like "Allow to cool 2 hours in pot" which you included in that JSAA clone you posted everywhere. Hello? Infection? What about a wort chiller?

You should not start threads just to answer them yourself, as you did with "Cheap mash tun wanted"- on 4 different forums!

You should not hijack threads started by other members of any forum and turn them into an exchange of half-assed "jokes"

And Jack, finally, considering your posting rate...how many brews have you actually done?

There. That's said.

Oliver, get in here & sort it out.

BTW, I do not and will not make apologies for any of this. Anyone with a point of view, email me or post it here for everyone to see. OUT.
Salut!

Are you actually wanting responses to any of those mate?...seriously, I have every right to be here as everyone else...and dont saying shit about me hijacking threads when it happens to everyone b y everyone...as far as the recipe thing goes, they were put up for suggestions & comments, like everyone elses recipes....and if you hadnt noticed I went back over the recipes & amended them giving credit where credit is due...I think you spend far too much time worrying about what Im doing to be honest...there wasnt an issue about anything I has posted before I was given Mod on here & I have taken advice from people who actually had something constructive to say to me.....unlike you mate which all I can say is this is nothing more than a sledge match!

Also since when has it been against the rules to post the same info on different forums?...not everyone is on the same forums hence why most people would cross-post...I've seen the same thing posted here & on other forums by others who are members here!

Jack, Jack, Jack...yes I do want responses. I PMed you previously about the fact that your posts needed to be considered & add value to forums, remember?
It is your credibility on the line here, not mine, in your capacity as a member of various forums, as a moderator, and a brewer.
this is nothing more than a sledge match!
No, it is NOT- it is an attempt to get a very useful resource, run by someone I know and like, back on track.
dont saying shit about me hijacking threads when it happens to everyone b y everyone
I'll wait for a proper response, then, unless this is all you have to say.
Salut!

I'm with undercover1 on this. Moderation should be minimal, unobtrusive and above all a solution, not part of the problem.

Pull your head in a bit, Jack, and let the good folk talk about beer.

Yes UC, I do remember & took what you had to say on board along with other suggestions from other brewers & members.

I have never tried to 'run' this forum...im here as agreed by by Oliver...I have posted info on here not from experience (which might not be the best approach) but from information I have gathered from other experienced brewers. I have learnt a lot from asking questions & documenting this information....sure I can understand to a point what you are saying but Im keen to learn as much as I can from everyone & from my experience you dont learn if you dont ask.

There have been many threads, topics etc hijacked on here & other forums, ones I have not been involved in & its always happening...its not like Im trying to hijack everything & take them off-topic at all.

If there are other suggestions that can be made in order for me to do a better job being a Mod on here, then I would love to hear them...its not something I am familiar with & if there is certain protocols etc that should be followed then tell me, Im only too happy to listen to people who know these things.

Fair comment James...if thats what is required & the posts need to be minimised then ok, thats fine...but im here to learn like everyone else & entitled to ask questions etc...point taken James, thank you.

Jack, it's nothing personal mate, you seem like a nice bloke. However when it comes to moderating and general board etiquette...well, UC1 and James raise good points.

Thanks Vit....I am still learning ettiquette & moderating etc & I am quite prepared to listen to those who have been around longer & know about these things. Its not like I dont care what people have to say cos I do, I want to be able to do the best by all you guys.

Gentleman,

this a copy of a post I made on my forum regarding moderation and the role of moderators, it be worthwhile looking at for a moment:

that as mods your job is not to ride rough shod over everyone.

It's more about helping keep the tone and flow rather than putting on the Gestapo boots and culling anything and everything you don't like!

As I said moderation is about keeping the flow and gently guiding off-track posters back to the topic at hand!!

Regards

Grab

Agreed Grab- that's not the issue.
This, on the other hand, may be relevant:

How much experience as a home brewer should you have to mod a brewing forum? As JS himself says:
I have posted info on here not from experience (which might not be the best approach)
and this:
Should you be a forum moderator if you do not know what's required?
If there are other suggestions that can be made in order for me to do a better job being a Mod on here, then I would love to hear them...its not something I am familiar with
Salut!
