new bar so far :)

Post by munkey »

hi i said once before that i would post up the pictures of my home bar escapades, iv been in the new house for a few weeks now and the other day seamed the right time to completely destroy the house, seeing as things were seaming to get to a normal way,
but i usually like to do a job and collect pictures on the way, then exhibit the Creation in its entirety.

but being the eager beaver i am I'm gonna give a blow by blow account of my progress,

also and ideas for improvements or possible disaster aversions would be appreciated, i did plan to make some drawings and plan the build before i started, but 2 trips to the hardware store and some beer later and I'm making it up as i go along.

please cast your opinions gentlemen.

day 2.

As long as the final product bears no resembelance to the ironing board, I think you're on a winner.

Ah, thats an ironing board: I thought it was his beer mat!

Speaking of bar mats, recently saw a Melbourne Storm (Victorians, thats your NRL team guys!) barmat on a bar in Patpong (Bangkok). And here I was thinking no-one would have the bad taste to display such a thing! Seems I was wrong.

Peterd,

I assume you were at Patpong purely for the markets

Actually, no. The markets have (by and large) moved out of town (to Chatuchuk Park). I was there mainly to admire the remarkable muscle control exhibited by some of the finely tuned athletes performing nightly in Patpong :-) And, of course, to drink Weissbier in sufficient quantities to influence the economy of Thailand (if not the country from whence the Weissbier originates).

dogger.

its actually very funny you mention that.
it was an option to have a fish tank in the front of the bar, but we decided against it.

at this moment in time I'm swaying to wards painted fiberboard, lit with colored tube lights from the top, and somehow incorporating translucent plastic which will be lit another color.

the top is getting tiled unless i can think of anything better.

Munkey,

How much line can a hand pull support from keg (is it cask?) to outlet?

What do you about venting the keg? or do you just maintain a low-pressure CO2 headspace?

Curious,

Tony

I'm not sure how much line they can pull from, iv had it running through a few meters with no problems, they sell special pumps to keep the line pressure at optimum if you were using a cellar,

also i got a special valve with it that opens when suction is applied and not with pressure from the keg, this stops the beer from pissing out continuously, as for good working pressures, i have only just got a bottle of co2 so all of it has been self primed thus far, i would imagine it will be quite low otherwise you wouldn't need to pull.

as you can see it dont look like a lot has happend in the past fer months, but beleve me it has. i actualy built a whole fridge myself out of a freeser i destroyed. and iv had to aquire a lot of bits and pices to make it all work.

this is the bar when i got the pumps boxed in.
Image

this is it all sealed up and insulated, what a glorius day when the top went on and i could cool beer down in it.

this is the bar just after i got the fridge part working.

and finaly the science bit...lol. this is the awsome controll i have over everything, there is room for 4 kegs and you can fit too fermenters in there on a plinth when the kegs are removed, (incase i wanna do a larger). also room for plenty of beer cans up the side. :):):):)

Keep your eyes on the Beer Mat if the Missus is going and don't go to the last page of the menu, I went there as a single man, holy crap is all I can say

Been there with the missus before (honeymoon for 4 months backpacking through most of SE Asia).

Also been back many, many times by myself with work, holidays with the boys etc etc............. can't say the Thai girls do much for me, but it's a load of fun looking & having a laugh :D
