Gday from Baghdad

Post by Phantom »

Gday to those brewers out there,

I'm still stucjk here till the end of this month the only real consolation was putting down some brews before going.

Will be looking at some nice gear when i get bacjk but with all the extra cash from beinmg over here.

I am certainly keen to look at the alternatives for a decent bench capper to bottle those twisties altough I reckon the superautomatica will win out.
will certainly be investing in another fermenter as well to boost my capacity for brewing.

Cheers for now, have a beer for me.
all we can access is Near-beer from the US DFAC, strongest is only .5%

Only need to drink 90 of em!!!! and they only let us take two home at a time.

Cheer

Forget the bench capper if you have money to splurge go with a keg system and do away with bottles 8). In the mean time I'll have a home brew or two for you.

0.5%!!!! Oh my god! Or should I say Oh my Allah!

My brother-in-law was in Saudi and reckoned homebrew was the big thing there. no wonder!

0.5%, that's flavoured water isn't it?

Near-beer

That's what we call it in Yemen too. Heineken Near Beer I assume??

Makes me laugh - we can take in bottles of spirits no problems, but not beer

My first batch of Coopers Pilsner (brewed in Yemen that is) went down a treat last week - you should've tasted the crap the boys had been drinking!!

Hey Phantom,
I will be drinking a brew to tonight.

In the mean time.

Lets see - near beer? Do you have access to sugar? Use the near beer as your wart, add sugar. The yeast is a problem- can you harvest it from near beer, I would be tempted to try a culture of yeast from the near beer or you can get a mate to send you some safale? In about 4 days you should have something a little better? - or more likely I am full of bad advice - !

Take care and get home soon...

I wish I could strengthen it up but its in cans, at least its free and you can only take 2 from the DFAC at any time anyway, still look forward to those brews at home, only got a month to go....

Managed to have a 500 ml carlsberg last night, oh got it was good to taste somwthing like a real one even if it was canned.

I guess 'home' brew is a completely different when you're over there. Rest assured your brew will the be the best beer you will drink in Australia upon your safe return.

Cheers
'cause I love that dirty water!
