Beer Mugs for Beer Mugs

I drink from a heavy, thick glass bottomed mug with a handle. The bugger takes over half a tallie, but I'd love to just put the whole beer in one glass.

I use the same glass for all my brews, with quick rinse if I change brews and when I'm done (or done for ) . It lives in my beer fridge.

What do you brewers use? I'd like to know. I'm thinking of getting a stein next Oktoberfest.

One Tallie, one beer.

I use a jug. My containers are king browns which I decant into jug then pour to a pilsner glass.

It's my plan to get to Muchen. (BYO umlauts) But this also involves winning the lotto. I own racehorse, but he only one 6k before I got him so he's no meal ticket.

I think I will send 'er indoors on the hunt for the required receptacle. Shes's a shrewd buyer.

I remember back in the dark ages I had a fleet of Pint Glasses from the Oaks in Neutral Bay, but a few steins from the german pub in the rocks...

But I only half-inch milk crates (14 tallies each) and road base now.

Not this year, but the next, I will be working and studying for a year in Berlin. I will be making the trip to Munchen for the Oktoberfest.

I mostly drink out of handled pots (Must be a Victorian thing) dont know why.
I used to have pint glasses to drink out of but the beer always seems fresher in pots. I'd probably drink out of 7 oz glasses if I didn't have to refill so often.

I remember pots and getting refused service in a pub in Garfiled or Bunyip. It was my first beer of the day, but when I said "schooner of Old mate"... I was done for.

I had trouble with pots, growing up on schooners (375ml) I like a longer draw to the whole beer. Or was I just sculling it down a lot?

But fresher beer is better beer.

Any ideas on a "compromise pot" size?

My favourite glass is a Theakstons pint glass I was given at a pub just out of Carlisle (UK). A friend and I were working our way through the half a dozen beers on tap (except the Fosters of course), and the Theakstons Best Bitter was served in a pint glass with the Theakstons logo on it. I thought they were cool, and had in mind to buy half a dozen of them if they would sell them. When I asked, they said they were not for sale - they only had a few, from Theakstons. I sighed and moved on to the next pint (a John Smith Bitter, IIRC). 10 minutes later the barman brought a Theakstons glass over and gave it to me with his complements.

oh no you have awoken one of those great beerology debates about glass sizes.

standard QLD glass sizes:
2 and 5oz = you are an old lady and you like shanties, get out
Pot = 285mL
Schooner = 425mL
Pints change depending on what pub you go to. i have encountered 550ml, 600ml, 660ml, 720ml

Me, I use the coopers isothermic beer mug. It's the stainless one they gave away with membership a few years back.

Prior to that I used a large handled glass that held a full tallie. This was great when I was drinking from bottles, but now that 95% of my beer is in kegs, I just use the smaller mug.

BTW it lives in the freezer when not in use.

That's a top size. Where did you pick that up? Oktoberfest? I'd like to get one soon so I end up pouring less thereby reducing the stirring up of the sediment...

A glass that size would resist heat transfer for a little while longer too.

i have a pair of those octoberfest beer glasses (Mass Krugs is the deutsche name).

They make you feel like a king drinking out of them

i got my fist for being a regular customer at the local piss shop, the other i got sent to me from the lowenbrau keller in sydeny.

These things are really cheap ( ~AU$10) and everywhere in Jakarta if anyone is ever there.

All you flash drinkers with your beer steins make me feel a little basic. We use those plastic mugs that have water between the 2 layers, which when frozen keep the beer chilled to the last mouthful. An added bonus is the good man sized hangle to grip onto. One day we will have class but until then we will go with the plastic
