Over Carbonation

Post by bigbanko »

Hi All

Just opened my Hahn Premium clone today after being in the bottle for 4 weeks and boy is it over carbonated. (glass half beer half head and fizzy like softdrink)

Here is what I have.

Morgans Blue mountain Lager
1kg Ultra Brew
Saflager S 26
12g Hershbrucker finishing hops steeped 10 mins
Primary 9 days @ 12 Deg
Secondary 8 Days @ 12 Deg
sg 1036
fg 1010 - over 3 days
Bulked primed with 180g dex (23L)

I guess my question is could I remove the caps and recap imediately then store my bottles in the fridge ready to drink in another couple of weeks.

Thanks for your help guys

Over Carbonated?

No such thing :!:

Hahaha

But seriously, pour em slower.
If that doesnt help, get them really, REALLY cold.
Then pour em slowly.

Wet your glass, as in rinse it with clean water before pouring your beer.

180g of dex is at the lower end of the high carbonation scale...bugger i just primed with 200!!!!!! Might just store 'em in the fride after a week or two ;)

I got nothing of value to add except, I keep my glasses in the freezer and have noticed that a pour into a fresh glass does 'fizz' more.

Hi Guys
Well after drinking a couple of these and practically having froth come out my nose from trying to swallow it, I uncapped them all and let them sit under a wet cloth for 2 hours. (All foamed up to the point of over flowing).
I then recapped them and put back in the fridge.
Tried a couple today and the carbonation is spot on and taste really nice, no off flavours or anything.
Won't have to use them as handgrenades after all.
