wheat beer

Post by OOZE »

G'day. I was wanting to know what type of yeast is usually used for wheat beer? Thanks in advance.

The Safale K-97 German Ale yeast is nominally a wheat beer yeast, albeit a very mild one. For a proper wheat yeast, try a liquid smakpak from Wyeast such as 3068 Weihenstephan Weizen Yeast. A number of HB stores sell them, or the competing Whitelabs brand.

Got to say I've had great results with the K-97 for a Redback clone.
Morgans 'Golden sheaf wheat' + Morgans 'Beer enhancer' with K-97 yeast, ferment @ 18 to 20C comes out a rippa.

Agree with your recipe, except I only use the kit yeast. Sorry that does not answer the thread, but it's a great recipe.
