novice requires assistance

Post by Aussie Bob »

Hello Brewers,
silly question time,
i have been using kits and 1kg dextrose for my first few HBs and am now branching out so to speak and wanting to try something different (recipies from this forum).
i have a can of morgans royal oak amber ale, morgans (unhopped) amber malt extract and 12g hops, do i need to add dextrose to this? as some similar recipes don't mention anything about dextrose and i don't want to assume its a given to add the dextrose.
your assistance is greatly appeciated.

Skip on the dextrose unless you want a wicked-strength beer, it adds nothing to the taste.

Bob,

How much of the Amber extract do you have? iuf it is 1 kg I would add about 500gm of either LDME or 300gm of dextrose.

1kg of liquid malt is not the same as dry malt as the liquid has water added to make it liquid. usually 1.5kg of liquid equals 1kg of LDME.

Then just go with the 1.5kg and you'll be sweet.
