Decoction Mashing - articles and/or online books

Hi All,

I'm gearing up for my first AG . I have read all of Palmer's book and it's a great read. However, I'd like to know more about decoction mashing and his book contains little on this subject. Can anyone point me to some articles or a web based book?

I'd rather read articles/books at this point to get a good understanding of the process before pestering people on the forum about things I don't understand yet.

The Brewing Network Sunday show 22 Oct 2006 had a discussion of decoction techniques.

As an aside, for your first AG I'd suggest that single step infusion might be a more straight forward option.

I agree, I'll do an infusion for my first AG (I've done part mash before). But I'm keen to learn as much as I can about brewing.

I hadn't heard of the brewing Network before! This seems like a great source of information. However, downloading an 80-90 mb MP3 at work is a no-no

. I don't have the net at home at the moment .

Do you know of any other references?

These 2 articles cover it really well alangman. Keep it really simple and like Greg says, I wouldn't attempt it until you have some simple ones done first and all is going OK. I've done it a few times, so may be able to help explain what's in the articles if you have some Q's.

Much appreciated. It's not hard to find info on the net about this. But, as always, sorting the wheat from the chaff.... or perhaps, the wort from the turb is a bit difficult when you don't have some background knowledge to weigh it against.
