slow fermentation

Post by gibovski »

Newbie alert---
I'm on only my third brew and have decided to have a go at the hoegarden clone some people have been banging on about here.
1 coopers wheat beer can
1 coopers wheat liquid malt can.
zest from 2 oranges
2 teaspoons of corriander seeds.

The guy and the HBS recommended Saf Wheat yeast K-97
Anyway I put it all in it came up at 1040 and it was bubbling through the airlock like crazy in less than 12 hours. It is now 9 days later and it is only at 1015. Seems like a very long fermentation time especially if it started so quickly. It is now bubbling around twice a minute.
Is anything wrong or do some brews just ferment longer than others?
Oh and the sg reading tasted great. Better than my first 2 did after 3 weeks in bottles.

what temp is it brewing at? 1015 isnt too high, take a reading on 2-3 consecutive days and if it doesnt change you can bottle! If i am not racking then i leave beers for 3 weeks, sometimes 4. Depends on what type, temp and the phase of the moon...... but mainly on how my stocks of ready to drink beer are.....

Relax, have a homebrew. Patience is a virtue, especially in this game.

Brewed at around 24 degrees. Wet towel to keep it cool in these changing climate global warming times.

Stocks are low as you can imagine if this is my 3rd brew and the fermenter has barely been dry yet. (I told my wife you need to keep it full to avoid infection  )

I assume if the airlock is still bubbling fermentation is still happening. Although my previous brew had been on 1006 for 6 days but there was still the occasional bubble from the airlock??? :? (I bottled anyway and haven't heard any explosions yet  )

Rack if you can, otherwise bottle.

I'm not racking yet either, and I'm only on my fourth brew.

My first three all took more than two weeks, one of them nearly three at 22-24 degrees. I was worried too, but they taste fine.

Patience grasshopper.
