2 Stout kits
2 Stout kits
Hello there ! Going through my tins of extracts I have found a Coopers stout witha 18 mth out of date stamp on it. No yeast. I was wondering if I added another stout kit with one yeast sachet to make up 30 ltrs with an enhancer combination would that be sufficient insofaras not having to add extra sugar. Thanks in advance, GM.
Should work, but I'd only make up to 20-23L to help it along!
The extra kit will provide the Boost it needs, without adding an enhencer kit of any sort. Should be ok

Some people say I have a drinking Problem....
I drink, I get drunk, I fall over....
What's the problem?

Glen,
I'd be wary of adding two cans of stout together (particularly if you only top it up to 18 litres, as suggested).
You run the risk of it being too strong (too much burnt flavour) and too bitter.
If you wanted to, the can would be fine to use as usual. Just buy another yeast sachet and add malt and/or glucose as usual.
As the guest correctly says, the use-by date really doesn't mean anything for the malt, just that it might be darker than when it was packaged. The yeast would probably have had a separate use-by date stamped on it.
Cheers,
Oliver

Just a note:
I followed Olivers recipe for Dockside Smoked Stout. This contains:
1 can of Morgan's Stout Kit +
1 can of Morgan's Smoked Kit
Chucked in some WLP-004 Irish Ale Yeast.
Bottle with 125g of brown sugar.
Had my reservations when i poured the Smoked kit can into the fermenter. It smelled like burnt cigarettes. It will dilute, I told myself and prayed.
And after only two weeks in the bottle, she's a ripper.
Lovely creamy head from the lower measure of sugar.
The smoke does not overwealm the dark grains.
Very tasty.
Thumbs up Oliver.
Thankyou very much.
Cheers
