2nd brew

Post by Scarfy »

for my second brew i threw a brewcraft brew enhancer in with a blackrock mexican kit. the enhancer was dry malt, sugar and some hops pellets (im guessing anyway). it just seems to have alot more sediment and what not. i just want to check that that wont adversey affect the flavour of my brew. its been sitting there for about 8 or 9 days now. any feedback would be nice.

p.s. tasting from the it tastes ok, but has an almost grassy aftertaste that doesnt sit altogether too well with me. (oh damn i seem to have answered my question for me...) DAMN that brecraft employee, or perhaps damn me for being new to this.

regardless feedback is welcome.

cheers

what kind of hops were they?

you'll find that the 'green' flavours of the beer will disappear with age. you'll be surprised.

Sometimes sitting hops in your brew too long can lead to the "grassy" flavour.

How long were they in for?

And as KEG mentioned, those flavours often resolve in time.

well thats the thing. the enhancer pack just said to throw it in with the kit. the pellets were mixed in with the dry malt.

Well, if you are set up for it, rack. That'll help things out.

If not, just bottle. There's not a great deal else to do. The flavours almost certainly will resolve. Don't worry too much about it.

Good things happen with carbonation, don't give up on it yet. I am not fond of the grassy flavours either but I doubt there were a pile of them in there so as everyone else has said, it will mellow.

Rustle up some bottles?!?!?!?

If you're near Penrith I can toss some 750 screw tops your way if you need them badly.
