You can freeze them, but there is a trick to it. Unless you need to store them for a prolonged period ie 12 months or so, fridge is by far the easiest option.
One tip for the yeast, I put one straight in the brew after it had been in the fridge and the yeast died I sure did stink . Dunno if it was the shock from going from 4 degrees to 20-23 degrees, but I am sure it would not have helped.
I take my yeast out of the fridge 30 minutes to an hour before pitching now.
