Don't know about the kits - at least i've not seen any but it has to be said that 4x gold has a great market in many parts of QLd particularly beyond the pale of Brissy where it has pretty well overtaken sales of its "bitter" cousin. In my opinion they are refreshing when they are very cold and i'm very hot - a beer bit like the pub regular who always sits on the same stool in the corner with the arse out of his pants. Cheers , GlenM.

beerboy,
Don't know what they're like.
But I'd reckon they'd be made in NZ, like the Tooheys kits, as Tooheys and Castelemaine Perkins are both owned by Lion Nathan.
Not that there's anything wrong with stuff made in NZ.

The BlackRock kits are from NZ as well and they're great, the Mexican Lager is a top drop.

The gold with a cluster tea bag is fairly close for those of you wanting to get close to XXXX Gold? I did it once for people who weren't very adventerous.
Never tasted FREE beer I couldn't learn to like!

Why the desire to replicate Queenslands challenger to Victoria's "Green Death"?
XXXX, in all its guises, is as popular in Qld as VB is in Victoria. But that doesn't necessarily make it (XXXX that is) a good beer. Ask the majority of Vics who visit this site. Their views on the qualities of VB are far from complimentary.
It appears that each state has its hangover material, and XXXX is unique to Qld. Its attraction to interstate visitors can only be attributed to said visitors being in holiday mode, and hence becoming relaxed and allowing their standards to drop.
The only saving grace in favour of the sentiments expressed on this string is that all the HBs mentioned read as being far, far, superior to the commercial brew they are attempting to clone.
Hope I haven't offended anyone with this rant.

Everyone tries to make a copy of a ordinary commercial brew at some stage because the more sophisticated brews don't suit friends and family members.
and heaven forbid some people may actually enjoy it...............every beer has it's place. nuff said.

So if we in australia drink a beer thats been brewed o/s does that make us better in any way? I know people that pay through the ass to drink corona, personally i dont think much of it. In england they drink fosters cause its australian but not many of us here drink it. The commercial beers such as vb xxxx tooheys seem to get bought and consumed so obviously they are doing something right. Is it marketing only that makes people drink a beer and then another or do they actually like the taste? I must admit ill drink a schooner of new at the pub and enjoy it but if they had LCPA on tap. ( i wish)
Therefore if you want to drink xxxx go for your life. If you want to try and make something similar experiment a little. Always good to listen to advice given though and maybe try new things.

Purple monkey dishwasher!
Marketing must have a lot to do with it. I don't think in a blind testing your average beer drinker could tell the difference between VB, Melbourne, Fosters, Crown Lager or Carlton Cold. They might notice difference in the tastes, but get them to put names to the tastes and i'm sure they'd be struggling.morgs wrote:Is it marketing only that makes people drink a beer and then another or do they actually like the taste?
"Doc, what can I do about these terrible hangovers?"
'You can stop drinking beer'
"No, seriously Doc, what can I do?"
