Soaking labels off bottles
Soaking labels off bottles
I have a big tub for soaking labels off stubbies but twice now, due to being busy, I've forgotten about them and left them in for over a week and the water has become stagnant which is no good and has resulted in me having to thoroughly wash the bottles afterwards just to get rid of the smell.
The obvious solution here is "Don't forget about them!" but I am fairly sure that I am going to do this again in the future.
If I was to get a small pump (eg: fish tank pump) and have that running to airate the water, would that then prevent/delay this happening?

I use the laundry sink. Sooner, rather than later, SWMBO will tell me to clear those damned bottles away. No way will they ever be left more than a day.
OK, I'm ducking for cover at the reaction of all the politically correct husbands who do the laundry for their sweeties........

I reckon I'm pushing the line a bit at home too. Every conceivable space in our cupboards, pantry, under the house etc is stuffed with empty longneck bottles.warra48 wrote:I use the laundry sink. About 200-250 of them I reckon. I need to start removing labels from those and I think the only way I can get away with it is to take a week off work and ensure there's not a single bottle in the tub when she gets home.
Now I'm starting to build my stubbie collection - go help me.
Jesus is coming - look busy
i dont bother with removing the labels...
i think it makes a pleasant surprise when your guest see a bottle of VB in your hand and are expecting a glass of that, but end up with a glorious little creatures or james squire clone...

Neither do i. Got quite a collection of older longies including southwark, west end export and the like. I did get told off in a recent comp for not removing the labels.James L wrote:i dont bother with removing the labels...

Its whats inside that counts

If your keen remove the labels and get yoru own made up, and stick them on. That impresses the visitors when they come over, and you give them a beer. They taste it, and if its good, the first thing they do is check the label, which is course, is your own custom label.
Who ever said nothing was impossible, never tried to slam a revolving door....
I only remove the VB and Tooheys labels that are recent and on twist tops.
The older longies are a talking point.
Soak in warm water with a scoop and a bit of napisan and the labels will slide off in about 2 hours
, or 4 hours to be sure.
I also put mine in an old bin, not used
, I think it holds about 50 litres. Use the warm water and napisan and leave outside in the sun. The sun keeps the water warm and the labels will fall off again. The bins are about 10-15 dollars from any cheap $2 shop and it keeps the bottles out of the tub.
IE fill in morning and remove when home from work.
Cheers

A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.

This is all well and good except I live in a share house. At my old house I had bottles soaking in the laundry sink and my f***head housemate put the washing machine on and flooded the laundry.warra48 wrote:I use the laundry sink. I think I'll just go the bleach option... Dunno why I haven't been using that already.
