No, but they do expect people pre-mixing spirits into the coke bottles. So the intact rings is your most important consideration. And +1 for Wassa's honey porter. It's a little stronger than average, say 5.5% and you could up the alcohol a bit by adding say 0.5 to 1kg of dex to take you to 7-8%.

Did one of these festivals 10 years ago (Geez, was it THAT long ago?).
Pulled the skins off the car door and filled with booze... Got thru no worries!

Note: wrap the bottles with tshirts, otherwise the doors make a suss "clinking" sound when closing.

I didn't think about that. So I'll do a slight glueing job on the sealer rings, making sure that the numbers printed on it match up

Not a big fan of porters (well I've only had a few, and those few I have had have turned me off porters), so I'll stick with the stout.

Looking at a bottle of coke I have now, with 2L, it's so wide, that it looks almost the same colour as a stout, as the light has to pass through so much of the liquid. The edges of the bottle of the slight redish tinge though. I compared this to a 600mL, and you can really see the tinge with the 600mL. So we will have to bottle all of it in 2L bottles. To avoid any colour problems.

I'm worrying too much about the security I think, people have said a blind, one armed toddler can search a car better than these guys, and I can agree with that.

I think now I just have to finalize the recipe.

We teared apart two of the cars trying to find spots like this, but there was nowhere with enough room.

Nah, too much effort. And I think they would be alot more confused about that than a bunch of innocent coke bottles. Also, not enough beer in them

How about in a canvas bag or camelpak type arrangement???

Carbonation might be stuffed, but imagine a car-door-keg?!?!

Alright, bought the ingredients. Here it is:

1.7 kg Malt Shovel Oatmeal Stout
1.7 kg Malt Shovel Pale Ale
1 kg LDME
500 g DDME
Safale S04 Yeast

Just gonna chuck it all in the fermenter with 4L of boiling water, dissolve, and fill to 21L. Rack after 1 week into secondary fermenter for a week. Don't need to bother doing a boil with the Malt Extract do I?

Estimated OG ~ 1084, FG ~ 1023, ABV ~ 8.6%

Now to stock up on some more 2L coke bottles. 3 down, 5 to go.

Also, this is going to be bulk primed, does anyone know how much dextrose should be used? Being a stout, I thought a little less than normal. And considering I still haven't bulk primed yet (1 week left till I get to try it on my hefewiezen), I don't even know how much normal should be.

Cheers,
Tim

A story I read some years ago, is that the folk at the then Tooths (or Tooheys, I forget which) brewery in Sydney used to put their product in coca-cola cans, so they could smuggle them into the SCG. That's got to be foolproof, but then again, how many of us work at mega breweries?

Can I suggest you grab a bottle of Coke and hold it up to the light. It is actually quite a red colour.

So to hand over to the chemists (or is that alchemists?) here. Would a a few drops of red food dye at bottling do any harm?

Rabz
um, roasted barley, peoples! (steep maybe 100-150g)

why put food dye in when brewing ingredients can do the job for you (and make the beer better)?

I think I read somewhere that security are not allowed to break the seals of bottles (DON'T QUOTE ME ON THAT), so make sure you have genuine seals.

I've got a friend who's a security guard coming round for dinner tonight, so I might ask her.

Wish I knew someone from the coke factory! Could get plenty of seals that way. I guess my gluing efforts will have to go well. So roasted barley gets the colour down a bit? Although in the 2L bottle, coke looks like stout anyway (different story for 600mL bottles). Hopefully the car doesnt shake it up to much and give it a nice head inside the bottle when the car is searched.

Hahah, man if you go to all that effort and then get caught just because of some head in the bottle, I reckon security would have to give you some serious respect because of the extreme lengths that you went to.

Cant you blowtorch/lighter/gas cooktop the original top to the security seal? that would work...get one of those firelights with the long stem... and just do each if the 10 connections with the bottletop at a time...

Whats the venue? (or are you scared security is scoping this site?! ;))

^^ that would look so obvious.

just find cola bottles with black caps, then use new coopers caps.

Its just a giant open area (well open till the 10,000 campers arrive), with a couple of stages at the end. The security is very poor, they barely search your car, but I just wanted to make it as much like an unopened coke bottle as possible when they open the esky in the boot. I think we are set now though. The stout is being put down this week.

I've tried the same thing, only problem was my doors were full of grog so I couldn't wind down the windows. My ac broke down half way to the festival and it was 35 degrees. Not a good day.
"Doc, what can I do about these terrible hangovers?"
'You can stop drinking beer'
"No, seriously Doc, what can I do?"

Ive heard you can get the lids off coke bottles without breaking the seal if you heat them up with boiling water and take them off carefully. I could be wrong but it would be worth a try.
