Classic German Bock Recipe (Kit)

Post by MR »

I want to make a classic style German bock, similar to the Weinstephaner (prob wrong spelling?). Can anyone help me out with a good kit recipe.

Bocks are mostly Munich malt, which is not found in many kits. A 1 kilo tin of Morgans Choc malt will get you on your way, but you would need a Bock kit to start with. I think Black Rock make one, or Beermakers? Check with your LHBS. I would probably add 10g of fresh hallertau pellets in a 60 min boil with the choc malt and 8L of water. Add the kit at flame out, cool, top up with water and ferment with WLP833 at 10C.
Prost and happy brewing!

Muntons make one as well. Add a kilo of LDME and up the hops to 20-25g if you want something like a dopplebock. The recipe I suggested is fairly strong for a bock.

WEIHENSTEPHANER...

you after the korbinian style? or just the tradition variety?

you should be able to make a rather simple but nice one with what Kev has suggested.

I know that ESB make a bavarian bock 3kg tin... that might too be worth a try. I know that their bavarian wheat is very nice (if you want to make a Weihenstephaner Hefe).
