Search around for a bloke called Frankie Yankovic. It is not authentic German beer garden music, but it is what they played at the German beer garden back home and it is good.

ETA: If you find any let me know ;) I have 2 of his songs, but I really would like more, especialy the Too Fat Polka! "she's too fat for me HEY, she'e too fat for me HEY, I don't want her you can have her she's too fat for me"

Also there is heaps of stuff on Amazon, and very well priced. But if you are looking for the "free download" sort of thing, I have never been able to find any.
Prost and happy brewing!

I found a double CD at JB hifi for $9.95, but also didn't find anything free on the web.

We also got 2 tapes from my wifes grandpa, who is of german heritage.

Should be able to find it in world music sections of bigger music shops.

A couple CD rips... but not all of them are what I was after. In fact none of them are really. I searched for Oktoberfest on a few websites (which I had never thought of before) and came up with a heap of music. But most of it was new wave weird stuff. The one I was excited about ended up being instrumental.

I think I will end up paying for MP3 albums from Amazon when I decide it will be useful.

i had to get my music from amazon.com, but i think if you are in a bit of a hurry to get it, you could prolly get it at JB for a little more....

I ended up getting two CDs called:

german beer drinking and merrymaking songs/music

and

oktoberfest in germany.

they are pretty good... mostly suitable for ambience... really get you in the beer drinking spirit...

I looked on Amazon- and listened to the free samples.

I wanted to get German drinking and beer garden songs- 14 all-time favorites, but there was a 4-6 week wait.

Went to JB and found nothing at all German.

Went to a little indie music shop upstairs from JB and bought

Germany- internationale experience, a 2 CD pack for $15. Disk 1 has 34 songs melded into 11 tracks- Bier Keller songs; and disk 2 has 18 Bier Barrell Polka tracks. It's good as it has all the tracks I wanted too. This is going to drive the GF nuts!

There is a little local radio station that plays alot of international music and they love to play polkas and oompa music etc. My wife always rolls her eyes at me when I stop there and turn it up 8)

Chris if you want the Bavarian Beesingers album you mentioned, maybe we could work out a trade?

OK.... I'm starting the planning already.... I know that freight from germania isn't too flash, so i decided to order a few things for oktober...

you may see a theme here....

Weihenstephan Umberella (2m diam)
Weihenstephan Neon/illuminating Sign (expensive)
15m of Pennant Flags
Ceramic steins,
Drinks Trays,
Weihenstephan Banner (1.5mx2m),
I even got a packet of weihenstephan Playing Cards...
Hoegaarden Flag

Its gonna take about 2 months to get here on the slow boat... and from now on i will only have one arm and one leg... but it should add to the ambience... Do you think that i'm a little excessive?

I don't think I'll be able to judge if it's excessive until I'm actually there. I'll be waiting at the letterbox for my invite
