you can get them from HOUSE.... that might be a better option (unless that particular francise is only in WA)... i have these silk reuseable teabags that are excellent... plus they only cost me 40c each... they are a little harder to come by, but if you want some, i might be able to track down a dozen or so and send them...

I've emailed and called that tea place that Kev linked and the silence is deafening..... Pretty keen on a few tea balls and the idea of buying 100 tea bags to use for dry hopping in primary sound very cool too. I did just buy 2m of muslin cloth for cooking but see no reason why it cant be used for dry hopping?

It's probably not you. I've tried to contact several companies over the Internet with the sincere intention of giving them money. I guess some businesses are just too successful...

I use pantyhose in my party kegs with some marbles in them and they work just fine...

I have been using pantyhose for this purpose too but never thought of adding marbles to make them sink to the bottom as i was always worried it might block the beer out tube...... I leave them to float on the top slowly infusing the beer with a wonderful aroma. I also can fit more in than the tea balls can handle.

Emoticons are perfect when it comes to doc and hops

I know, I know, I cannot talk, I'm a bit of a hop fiend too :D

Thinking of adding some hops to my keg too..................but first I have to do Lethal's recipe for Belgian

ie 2 kegs full and only enough room for 1 more brew.

Whilst on the subject of dry hop, doc have you dry hopped the LCPA in the keg? I'm definitely going to try my JSGA with dry hopped Amarillo next time

Cheers

I have dry hopped every single LCPA i have ever made, not sure why you even needed to ask mate?

Have tried dry hopping with cascade or chinook or both. Current batch has 25g of chinook swimming in the keg and tastes pretty bloody good. When the new tea balls arrive i will throw in some cascade as well. And dry hopping the JSGA is also a dead set winner. I just swapped a keg of that stuff over and the mate is in heaven.

As for the tea balls, Kev posted the link so thank him for that. Cheers Kev! But here it is again - Link

Sorry, should have clarified...I dry hop mine in the fermenter that I rack into. Do you dry hop in the 19 Litre Keg in the fridge that has your gas and taps attached to :D

Reason I ask is that when I dry hop in the fermenter it goes in loose and generally floats on top with a few "bits" down the bottom.....but I have always been hesitant to hop in the corny keg as most people do not like floaties in their beer

Cheers

Yesterday I opened up a corny and found alot of hops stuck to the bottomof the empty keg. (pellet dust)
I didnt notice any floaties in any of my beers though.

I bought one, but it took weeks to get it :P

Works very well for me, no bitsy beer and it sinks so I do not need to sanitise marbles like with stockings etc.
Prost and happy brewing!

Boonie

I dry hop in secondary, normally for somewhere between 4-7 days and then rack to a keg and throw the bag or tea ball of hops into the keg as well where it stays until i finish the keg. On a few occasions i have used a fresh batch of hops to dry hop in the keg and the aroma reaches out of the glass and slaps you around the face........

Greg,

I had a look at the tea balls as suggested, ended up buying 2 @$10.20 each. They are ~ 75mm in dia and ~ 90-100mm deep, I have some old hops I forgot about, and I'll see how much they will hold when the hops swell up.

Thankis for the tip Greg.

Has anyone tried steeping hops in a coffee plunger then tipping it into a keg?

I have steeped both grain and hops in the coffee plunger with bad results from both. It is a major PITA to clean up after and a lot of junk gets through anyway.

I disagree with you Kev. I've successfully used the plunger for steeping grains.
Concur on the cleaning, but, plungers are always a pain to clean. Cleaning grains was no harder than with coffee grinds.
