SMALL BOTTLING & CAPPING DRAMA

Hello all,

Well I was bottling a batch of beer 2 days ago, everything was ready and away I went, filled all the bottles, lidded them and started capping, all was good until I got to these 3 Clear Hahn Premium longnecks, I soon discovered that they are a VERY TALL bottle and do not fit under the capper at its highest point, of course not wanting to R--t around and pour them in three other bottles, I remembered I had thrown one of those hand held cappers somewhere, but do you think I could find it? Well after some obscenities I finally found it and proceeded to cap these 3 bottles.

All I can say is that I personally would hate to cap a brew using one of these things, it would take hours. But just a HINT, keep it handy.

ADVICE TO ANYONE WANTING TO START BREWING -
Along with buying your brewing equipment, BUY A MECHANICAL CAPPER, THE $60 BUCKS OR SO, IS WELL WORTH IT(a got a solid brigalow one, near new for $30 off Ebay)..

That is very true about the auto-cappers. Hand-cappers are terrible.

Hand-cappers are the reason why I keg (or so I keep telling the wife!)

Is is possible too hit the cap on too hard with a hand capper, causing CO2 to leak out?

Only if you somehow manage to hit it so hard that you break the plastic seal inside.

If you hit it that hard though, you'll more than likely break the bottle first.

My brother-in-law nearly lost a finger to the hand capper.

Admittedly he was capping a twist top VB stubby. The bottle smashed, and his hand was driven into the broken glass, coming to within millimetres of tendons. Many stitches were required.

For bottling a Superautomatica style capper is compulsory.

The Superautomatica I purchased on Ebay shites all over the Brigalow.

I recived a Pm from Nick.

He tells me that his Brigalow actually has Superautomatica written on the orange base, mine is black.

To show the differences, I have uploaded a photo.

Super features that are better...The push button is better, smaller increments in height on ratchet...which you cannot see , extra height and lighter.

Looking at the photo, maybe I should have cleaned them.....

I did that the other night. Primed the bottle got distracted by the cricket on the telly and capped an empty bottle, felt rather stupid especially since I was running low on caps Must switch to kegs

I have actually done that too. dunno how, they are lighter.....must have been a big night.

That's Boonie's way.....capping empty bottles, and without crown seals in the capper too!

I have a Superautomatica, but I've made a stand for mine and bolted it to it, so that I can apply whatever force is needed without the thing tipping over.

It just so happens that my "Superautomatica" sterilises, rinses, primes and caps my bottles all automatically. That'd be cool hey.......I think I was dreamin'.

I just stand and watch. I like to watch ....that's another dream

It seems the reason i was confused is becuase my brigalow capper is actually the same as your super. Hopefully i have attatched some photos of mine if all goes well. By the way, i purchased it for 45$? at kmart.

Yeah I see what you mean Nick.

The brigalow I bought at Big W was different to yours. You can see in my photo that mine was bronze with a black base and nowhere near as high as the Superautomatica.

You have the best model.
