Is my brew ruined?
Is my brew ruined?
Having been absent from the home brewing scene for about ten years due to a few bad experiences i thought it was about time i got back into it again. So the other day during the hot spell I had the wizzbang idea of putting down a brew (after having a few brews myself). So I found the coolest part of my garage @ about 32 deg.The next day the airlock was frothing out of control. At this point I knew I could be in the shit, although the next day it had slowed considerably, and the next day(today) I think it has stopped.Have i failed miserably or is there still hope yet ?
Re: Is my brew ruined?
What temperatures did it reach? I would hesitate to say "ruined" yet, but highly likely that it'll be less than excellent with those sort of temperatures.

Re: Is my brew ruined?
Abuot 30 to 32 but only for 3 to 4 hours as the temperature dropped off really quickly to about mid twenties. Every day since it has only reached mid to high twenties.thermo tab is reading a constant 26 deg

Re: Is my brew ruined?
You will do better in the autumn months with no temp control. You might want to limit hitting this stuff hard, as differnent types of alcohols called "fusel alcohols" start being produced at these higher temps... and apparently they can be responsible for some nasty nasty hangovers.
Maybe you want to put the fermenting beer in a big drink ice tub, people have told me you can get them cheap from soem Aldis and Bunnings, then fill this with water and ice at least in the first few days of fermentation when the majority os going on.
