Draught mix what to make ?

Post by slayer71 »

Hi guys I'm thinking about putting down a Draught mix my 1st one maybe a Coopers Original Draught or the Thomas Coopers Traditional Draught, basically want an easy K&K recipe, can anyone recommend an easy recipe and roughly if it what sort of beer it will be similar in taste or style too ?

Cheers all.

If you are going straight K&K, maybe ge the more expensive coopers kit and add 1kg of malt or 500g malt and 500g dex if you want it drier.

I am unsure about the style of "draught" - I thought it basically means forced carbonation, originally of a UK pale ale. The current perceptions is nothing like this.

A little light crystal malt steeped, and a little hops of your choice will make this a very nice beer regardless of what the word draught means.

I know that I might be roasted for saying this, but I can't pick too many different tastes in the coopers kits besides varying levels of iso hops. I think that if you look at the IBU (and calculate it out to the final IBU of your batch) that is basically your difference right there.

That is the reason if I am using a kit, I start with a cerveza (least colour and bitterness) and add whatever flavours on top. Hopefully the expensive coopers kit have more finesse in the hops dept.

I've just made 5 kegs of this for a wedding I am supplying all the beer for. There are 9 x 19 Litre kegs in full and Home Brewed spirits......no I am not invited, friend of a friend. :?

1 Can Beermakers Draught
1 Can Morgans Extra Pale (yes it is hard to get ATM) or Coopers Light
Standard Yeast

Method
Warm up cans in sink.
Mix Well with approx 1 Litre hot water in Fermenter
Add water to about 18 litres
Add 2 x 1.5 Litre Coles Spring Water (To lower start temp)
Top up to 23 Litres.
Add Yeast

Once cooked (7 days), put fermenter in fridge for lagering.

Bottle/Keg whatever your preference after 1 more week.

This comes out similar to Tooheys New.

Cheers

Boonie

PS No Hops as I do not want to offend VB and Tooheys drinkers.....if it was me, all the way with LCPA...don't like it, stiff.

My 'Summer Beer' is ridiculously simple but it makes an easy drinking 4% very pleasant beer. I'm actually looking at dropping the sugar by another half and adding a bittering hop tea but for now there are a couple of (large quantities  ) of this and it's OK.

Constant temperature brewing is very beneficial. 18 deg in a fridge with a fridgemate controller.

And yes I've done the boiler, hops, malt, dex ............ but you said easy........

One fermenter
In goes 0.5Kg raw sugar and a can of Coopers draught
Boil the jug, rinse the can and add to fermenter
Boil jug again and add to fermenter
Stir, stir, stir.
Fill to 22 liters with cold water.
Sprinkle on yeast and ferment 7 days
Bulk prime on 150g boiled and cooled raw sugar
Bottle, age and drinkable in 3-4 weeks

Now we know our forum purists are making painful faces BUT this is a good place to start from, experiment and add to THEN come back to as an easy quaffer.

Cheers, Geoff.

Success....I just did HB for a wedding, YES a wedding.

I did 5 of the above "Tooheys Recipe" and 3 Morgans Bitter with 1.5kg of Morgans Liquid Malt and a Black.

All kegged and poured from 5 taps and a home made bar...home made spirits as well (not mine).

Draught went down well and the Black went very fast....bitter was a wee bitter for them though, except for 1 bloke who loved it.

One bloke came back and said, is this Tooheys? My reply, na, better....HB

His reply, I was wondering why there was no aftertaste !!

An old bloke was in raptures over the Black, best black ever.....and this is Kit and 1.5 Kilo's of Liquid Malt.

Yeah baby :D

Cheers

Boonie

Yes medium dry malt or at least thats what they call it here. Muntons sells ldm,mdm and ddm in 500g bags. They medium makes the beer a little maltier, but i suppose you could use ldm or liquid if you so choose.
