Hi fellars , for the last 6 brews i have used 2 yeast Satchels in each brew. 1 from Ross
Name: Fermentis - SafBrew S-33 (6gm)
and normally the kit yeast as well together. definately gets it popping like crazy for around 7 to 8 days ! And any kit twang seems to have dissapeared this way .... Would you fellars say to use 2 X SafBrew S-33 (6gm) or stick with the kit yeast and 1 SafBrew S-33 (6gm) ?
Also can you use bakers yeast to feed the SafBrew S-33 (6gm) ? So 1 X SafBrew S-33 (6gm) + 1 X Bakers yeast .
Thanks for any comments. Cheers

Re: 2 Yeast satchels per 23lt brew
i thought using 2 yeast was a no no
but wouldn't the 2 yeasts devour all your fermentables not really leave anything for tasta
*puts on noobie hat*

Re: 2 Yeast satchels per 23lt brew
I was told by Ross. to use 2 X Yeast satchels because they each were only 5 Grms, not sure if 11 gram yeast would be too much ?skurvy84 wrote:i thought using 2 yeast was a no no![]()

And from what i read you need to devour all the fermentables or else you dont have a reaction to turn it into Alcohol !
Need more info on this subject from the Experts please ?
Re: 2 Yeast satchels per 23lt brew
not an expert but i think blending yeasts unless they have similar apetite is a bad idea?
2 packets of dry yeast is generally a good idea, if they are the same type that is
but who knows...if it tastes good then it can't be too bad eh

Agreed, not sure you want to mix two different types of yeast, as they will each impart different taste characteristics to your beer. As for the amount of yeast, I generally use a single sachet of safale yeast (so 11.5 gms) for a 20-23 litre brew. If you only have 5g sachets, I'd definitely be using two.

Thank you for your answers on this one . Much appreciated.... Looks as if the verdict is same yeast > 11 gms . Cheers.

Re: 2 Yeast satchels per 23lt brew
Use a single Saf yeast for Ale fermentations and 2x Saf for lager fermentations. Do not use the kit yeast (chuck this in the bin or save it to be used in the boil as nutrient when you go AG), if you want to use the cheap S-33 use 2x packets.
