If you get it from somewhere like Craftbrewer that vacuum seals it, it lasts a few months even when cracked - uncracked even longer so if you have your own mill you can go a bit nuts.

Thanks. Ive just purchased a liquid yeast (Californian Ale). So far ive boiled 1 Litre of water and 100g of malt @ 10min, and cooled it to room temp. Than i placed wort and yeast in a 2L coke bottle. So how long should i let it ferment for before sticking it in stubbies and refridgerating? And also how much should i stick in each stubbie? Thanks..

Thanks again rwh. I just did a search and still couldnt find the same thread. Doh. Other threads i read made me more confused, but yours hits the nail on the head.
I have a couple of pdf files that seem interesting. One is Beer- Tap into the art and science of brewing 2nd edition and the other one is the homebrewers recipe guide. There about 6mb.

I think those were for sale on eBay. They were distributed as an open license which also gave you permission to on-sell them?

I have received the recipe pdf from Damian (thank you very much!) and it is actually different from the one I had previously had. I will upload it to my website for all to indulge. If anyone out there had a pdf of recipes (it said something in it about being free to on-sell and it was quite long!) I would really like to have it again! I am pretty sure it came from eBay but I can not remember the name of it. Maybe it was KEG or Doc? I am not sure where I got it from but I think it was sent to me and not linked?

I was after some help furmulating a hops schedule for an extract recipe. I wanted to combine Saaz (2.5%) and Cascade (?). I have some 80g Fuggles (4.7%) and 21g of Hallertau Hersbrucker (3%) id like to use up for bittering, if it wouldnt compromise the Saaz and Cascade effect. Thats if Saaz and Cascade even go well together? My other ingrediants are ..

200g Crystals (steeping)
Californian Ale liquid yeast WLP001
Maybe 23l volume
Unfortunatly my pot will only do a 5 litre boil.
Any help would be appreciated.

I think this would work ok in terms of bitterness etc., but I haven't tried Saaz with Cascade...

30g Cascade @ 60 mins
20g Saaz @ 15 mins
15g Saaz @ 0 mins

With the boil volume try and add the malt in to get the estimated SG. Probably about 500g malt I'd say.

I would bitter with Fuggles, flavour with both, and aroma with Hersbrucker. Maybe something like:

500g dry extract in the boil with the liquor from the steep with your 4L of water
60g Fuggles full 60 min boil
10g each of Fuggles and Herskbrucker @20
10g each of Fuggles and Hersbrucker @dry hop

You will sleep even better once you have gotten a taste of PA's Cascade and Saaz

Im just preparing for 1st proper Lager ferment . Ill be doing a ESB 3kg Czech pils then a Bavarian lager, both are very light in colour. I was wondering what grains and how much should i steep with these brews? Thanks.
