I'm starting this one tomorrow. Will report back with results. May not be a LCPA clone??? but should be a cracking beer nevertheless.

Just cracked this one (NZ draught) after 3-4 weeks in the bottle. An absolute success!!! The color is a bit darker re: out of date can, however side by side with a LCPA, it's like getting home and realising Jennifer Hawkins' twin sister is sitting on your couch. Truly an epiphany.
An absolute winner Boonie. Fantastic.

That's hilarious the bit about Jen Hawkins.
I've just made one last week with just the Standard Morgans Draught and it is just as good.
I think you could pretty much sub any can as long as the IBU's were not too high.
I've input the recipe into Beersmith and have been testing the range of IBU's to see what/if it can be improved and to ensure that it is not too bitter. I have been adding specialty grain etc, but the original is still the best......so far.
Doc reversed the hop schedule with success too.
Some-one on here mentioned it was too bitter so I thought if I do it in Beersmith and allow for the 25 IBU's in the Morgans can, then I can post it on here so it can be followed easier.

too bitter ? bah humbug.
though when I looked back at notes with morgans or coopers traditional draught it was far more bitter.
it's a bloody nice kit+ recipe champ.
just throw in 3x cascade plugs instead of 1 for dry hopping muhaha.
3 which were noted as really good used a wheat malt can instead. ++

Yeah, I'm a bit of a Hophead too
With my last batch, I added an extra 20g of Cascade in a hop ball inside the keg for that extra kick.

I love the smell of hops and even when cooking...my family hates it and I have been banished to the BBQ Sideburner to cook my brews.

Yeah I've been banished to the back deck to do my boils as well because of that horrible "cooking beer smell". One of those camp stoves with the can gas just keeps a 8l boil going.

Hi Guys,
Quick question on dry racking for this recipe:
I made for the first time this last month, it's awesome! My only slight problem was when i chucked in the dry hops in secondary. They caused a bit of blockage in the bottling tube. I was wondering whether I could put the hops into the fermentor wrapped up in a muslin cloth?

That'd be OK...or buy a Stainless Steel Hop Ball...they are about $10.00 max and will last for ages.

I Just put this list of ingredients together in the fermenter, not because I wanted to experiment, but because the guy in the brew shop didn't have everything on the list, and reckoned the substitutes wouldn't make any difference to the brew:
Morgans Stockmans Draught
1.5 kg Light Liquid Malt [Country Brewer]
12g Cascade pellets - 15 mins
12g Cluster pellets - 15 mins
12g Amarillo (dry hopped at start because I don't rack - don't have a second fermenter yet)
Safale US-05 Yeast [Told it was the same as US56, but renamed]
hmm is this likely to be similar to Boonies LCPA?

Yeah, it should be reasonably similar. I suspect that you may note more of an "orangey" aroma from using Amarillo in lieu of Chinook, however I think as an American Pale Ale, this is still well within the style guidelines. Should be tasty at the very least.

Without the grapefruit hit from the Chinook, it won't be a clone of LCPA.
However, as Lachy said, you'll still have a very nice tasty brew, very much in style for an APA, and probably more like a JSGA.
And yeah, US05 is what used to be know as US56. They had to change the name, because the 56 part of it was too close to WY1056, which is basically the same yeast in liquid form. It's the yeast used for classic beers such as LCPA, and also SNPA.

Bugger!
Think I might have a problem. I tipped the hot mix into the fermentor and topped up with water, added the yeast, etc. Just realised I forgot to strain out the hops. Is this going to be bad? I was planning to rack to secondary and then dry hops the chinooks. Should I still do this?

I rack and dry hop mine on Saturday
You can then probably add me to the list of members to post 'great beer thanks Dr and Boonie!'
All going to plan so far and going straight to keg in a little over a week.

Strain it? It has never crossed my mind.
It all ends up in the bottom slurry, I have never strained or filtered mine (and I rip open the hop tea bags)

I just kegged my batch of this and I must say its smells
AWESOME!
Cant wait till its down to fridge temp and its gassed up. How much will it lose its aroma in a keg over a period of time??
I've got a party in 4 weeks and I hope it tastes great for that. Prob wont tap it for a few weeks anyway and I'm carbonating at pouring pressure anyway.
