Two ways this is achieved
1. Around the sides if the o ring used is loss enough.
2. Pin hole in the glad wrap.

It builds up alot so the glad wrap realy bulbs up like a little dome ( it wont burst though ) but eventualy escapes past the thread/seal join.
Sorry Shaun, did'nt read yours before I posted mine.

I've used glad wrap on my last three batches
I thoroughly recommend it!
You can watch the beer ferment - and you don't have to worry that there is no bubbling because you can actually see what's going on.
I put one piece on, then the O ring from the lid, and then another piece over the glad wrap and the O ring.
I've never worried about a hole.
Cheers

I started out with the Coopers kit. Eventually bought another. Basically, once I found confidence I added to it, however, I did lose interest for a year.
It's worth buying a bench capper and bottle tree. I just bought a tree last week and wondered aloud often and annoyingly to my wife why had I waited so long to part with $37? Best investment.
Coopers will have all that you need. I bought a submersion heater but rarely use it.
All in all, start small and work your way up. It's a great hobby and don't be disillusioned by a shit batch. We all get one at some point.
Learn to add hops and other fermentables to improve flavour and learn to cook it up. Is all part of the fun of experimenting.
And if possible, let your missus get involved coz all the help you get iwth cleaning is a bonus!
Sorry to take this back to the start, but there's my two cents worth.

Jack,
same with me. I get around it with the odd batch of lemonade, ginger beer, or cider.
Aside from that, she doesn't even want to know.

Fellas, I'm sure she the wives know how to clean a bottle or fermenter!
Tell them it's another way to spend time together! Or promise to watch a chick flick with them... while necking a few of your brews! After a while it becomes bearable.

Romantic Comedy can sometimes actually be funny when you're pissed.

yep, and you can make a drinking game out of it. I've had some huge successes with movie drinking games, the two that come to mind:
1. watch easy rider and take a drink every time someone says 'man'
2. watch hellraiser, drink if you see a cenobite, if a cenobite talks, if you see a skinless corpse, if a skinless corpse talks, if you see the puzzle box. Boy were we pissed after that one

Geez, I'm must be real lucky. My wife encourages my brewing and even enjoys the rewards. She primes and caps with me. Not too fond of the eber farts though...

I was certain I had some input in this thread the other day, God I must stop drinking so much!
Glad wrap??? My very first brew was in a garbage bin (new of course) covered with the dreaded wrap!
I'd like to think I've progressed some since then and now to sate my voyeuristic hunger I brew in glass. When I get an active yeast I just turn the telly off!
