I used to play for Westpac and many a good all in brawl we had with you guys, some of them I even started. Ahhhhh, how I miss the front row of a scrum, the feel of bodies colliding and the commeraderie after a good game.
Yeh, how I miss it! I miss slicing through a backline to score the winning try, and booting the goal to top it off. (I'm a fullback).

For what it is worth, I would prefer no sponsership. I would however be willing to help with costs of running the site.

I'm a new member and very impressed. I'd be concerned that sponsorship would diminish the experience but there again I'm not sure I would have joined if I had to pay to subscribe (perhaps different in hindsight).

Regardless, I think the TERMS AND CONDITIONS of the sponsorship are the important thing. Exclusivity would be problematic, as would sensorship, eg of criticism of their products on the site.

Popups would suck too.

Cheers, Mick

Gudday,

I've been a lurker here for a while and love the place!

One suggestion for this thread is there is a woodwork forum in the states (Sawmill Creek - and no I'm not a member) where members can place a voluntary contribution of a small fgure a year. You don't have to contribute to be a member but those that do have a little tag under their name saying "2006 Contributor". Maybe something like that is possible (but you may have to switch to vBulletin, not sure if phpBB can do it :? )

Any way, Thanks all for a great place and also for the extremely informative stuff here!!

I think that any company would be OK as long as it is not "Conditional".

Coopers generally get a rap + G&G, so if it was up to me, I would approach them first with the offer given the responses to their products.

Coopers could offer discounts/offers to the site similar to their "Coopers Club".

This would be a way to further expand their promotions and given that we have a few O'seas players on board, it will promote their product outside of Australia.

If you walk up to the Companies with "What's in it for them"/ Business plan and show them the hits for this site you may get a great deal.

How much is it costing the site owners to run this site?

.
I agree, even if this site was sponsered by CUB  they're not likely to change my drinking habits. As long as they can't edit my posts :P

No, sorry, Greg. The company that had approached us has not been back in contact.

Open to offers though. Anyone ... Anyone :?: :?: :?:

It's $330 a year for hosting, plus $55 a year for domain name registration.

That's only about 50 cents a day, so it's not breaking the bank!

Cheers,

Oliver

I'll throw in some $.

How much do you want?

You have to remember Oliver / Oliver 2 that your time is money also.

I am happy to throw in some loot a year to keep this going. I have learnt more from this site than my local HBS  .

Cheers

When I see Geoff at the Belgian Beer Cafe Bluestone next weekend we'll have a chat about it.

But I think the consensus will be that we don't want your money, thanks all the same.

Not that we don't like money, it's just that we do this for the love :P

Cheers,

Oliver

Great Oliver.

And I think all of us who visit this site love you and Geoff.

Absolutely amazing site/forum, and truly, there must be some way of the rest of us showing our appreciation.

Ideas, anyone?

my 2 cents worth

This site is Australian and should be sponsored by Australian's.

From what I have read so far I will make the following suggestion, instead of HBS or beer companies why not go with companies that are so to say relating to beer, and not just one but a few. ( get a few bucks extra and improve your site )

What comes to mind is : camping, fishing, the barbie, seafood, shed's ect.....
and I am sure these types of places would love a little advertisement on the web.

That way you will just have a few silent logo's on your site who will love the advertisement and be able to change and add if needed.( no sense committing to one)

Perhaps we should be sponsored by Online Phentamine, Vietnamese Hardcore Porn and herbal Viagra alternatives.

I mean, they're already quite active at advertising here :P

Another idea would be to remain advertising free, but to set up a PayPal account or something similar to allow people to contribute a couple of bucks towards the running costs if they think we're worthy.

Geoff and I aren't in this to make money, so a few dollars a year from a small proportion of the members would go a long way to covering our costs.

Just a thought ...

Sounds like a good idea and im sure that plenty of us would be willing to pitch in a few bucks a year towards the running costs as most of us have gained a world of wisdom from this site

Any thoughts on this in the new year Oliver?

The amount of improvement in my beers in the short time i have been a member here has been huge and i would be more than happy to contribute via paypal or the like.

Cheers
