I just wonder what the results would be if the tastings were conducted in Germany with the same products but with an all-German panel of tasters. The results would be just as biased as these are. Furthermore, I wonder if this story isn't just a piece of covert advertising as it really draws attention to the "freshness" of Australian beer as compared with imports.

No, it's just a sterotype of people who aren't focusing on their beer: the drink simply becames an accompaniment to other distractions.

A few blokes don't rate the LCPA on here, that's cool, I didn't rate Coopers Stout that high

Still drank it though

But....if you threw a VB's and a Coopers stout's on the table, the VB would still be there at the end of the night

Cheers
Boonie
A homebrew is like a fart, only the brewer thinks it's great.
Give me a flying headbutt.......

Something that seems to have gone missing from the discussion are two fairly critical points in regard to the "research". Well actually more than two, but consider this:
Nowhere do I see any credentials for the experts' 'expertise'. They just keep referring to them as "experts." What the?? "Hi, I'm a Beer Expert. Got any beer ya want tasted?"
Second, and I quote, "CHOICE got together a panel of experts (four men and two women)"
Four men. Two Women. So yeah, I'd agree, these 6 people's judgement should easily and accurately depict the views of a nation of 20+ million.
Someone with a degree in statistics might like to compute the expected margin of error when you substitute 6 for 20 million? Probably only a couple percentage points, right?
The more i look at that site, the more bizarre it seems. Who in the hell would go to "Choice - Trusted Information for Australian Consumers" and let them tell me what beer is 'best'?? Who would pay $10 for that "report"? Who at news.com.au would pick up this "story" and report it as "news" ?? What the hell IS news.com.au anyway? It's... RUPERT isn't it??
deep breath. deep breath. (reaches for LCPA HB clone)

I wonder how many experts had any accreditation as far as beer tasting. Objectively tasting beer (or anything) when you don't know what you are looking for, is near impossible. Hence it is solely subjective. In other words, take from this 'report' what you will.
Choice has. I'm sure someone paid the $10.
Agree....
I thought about getting a report on LCD screens when I was buying one recently, but figured online forums and user experience would be a hell of a lot better than "experts"
As for beer - well, thats ridiculous. Next they will have a report for $14.95 showing that experts couldn't tell any appreciable difference between The Wiggles and Led Zepplin. Different audiences... different tastes.
