I tried one last night after 2 weeks in the bottle (early i know, but i was keen to have a try) and it is a great beer. Easily the best kit that i have made, and almost as good as a fresh wort bohemian pilsner that i have done. Light colour, clean flavours, and holds a great head. Should be a cracker once it has had some more time in the bottle.
Definitely be doing one of these again.
Well, that's a good enough endorsement of this kit for me. I put your recipe down as written this afternoon, and I look forward to trying it in a couple of weeks.
Well, it was bottled today. Even at bottling, the flavour was very crisp and clean for a kit lager. Time will tell, but I think this may be the best kit lager that I've done. Kudos to Coopers for the can, and kudos to pxpx04 for the recipe.
Well, I've taken stock of the remaining hops lurking in my fridge...
I've found 10g of Spalt, 10g of Hersbrucker and 15g of Hallertau. I've also got a spare Coopers European Lager, a couple of kilos of LDME and a 1.7 kilo tin of Extra-light malt extract. I've also got DDME and crystal and choc malts, but I've got them earmarked for some other beers in the coming months. However, the hops need to be used up, and I thought I'd employ them to trick up the Coopers kit, although I have to admit I'm not exactly sure if this will work.
My thoughts are as follows:
Coopers European Lager
1.7kg Extra-light Malt Extract
*all the above hops*
S-189 (kit yeast)
23l, fermented as cool as possible.
Now, my question to you guys would be how best to employ the above hops in a hopping schedule? I'd like to get some nice floral or spicy notes in the aroma with some appetising but not OTT bitterness. Any takers?
