Remember, if no one poured water down the drain, then the waste water treatment plants wouldnt work... they need a certain volume of water to process waste effectively.. if there is no water, waste water constituent levels (ammonia, phosphorus, carbon) cannot be diluted to managable levels for the activated sludge (bacteria) to handle and therefore it would be in the shit... literally.
If worst comes to worst... just think that the water you are tipping water down the drain is helping our poo get turned into lovely atmospheric nitrogen (and other things)...

Oh come on, surely they have enough water. And besides, we're talking about diverting water from the storm water system, not the sewerage system. I'm sure enough people are having showers, washing their hands and flushing the toilet for them to have several times as much water as they need.
w00t!

So how is it legal to install recycling systems that dont allow any water to leave the property? Its what i would be installing if i had money to build a house from scratch. That and a metric shitload of water storage/catchment....James L wrote:Remember, if no one poured water down the drain, then the waste water treatment plants wouldnt work... they need a certain volume of water to process waste effectively.. if there is no water, waste water constituent levels (ammonia, phosphorus, carbon) cannot be diluted to managable levels for the activated sludge (bacteria) to handle and therefore it would be in the shit... literally.

Re: wort chillers
its perfectly legal...
But treatment plants do need a certain amount of water to operate. i was doing the "worst comes to worst" scenerio
and besides, industry probably contribute about 50% of the water that needs treating anyways...

Re: wort chillers
I hear you James, but I'm only interesting in doing the best I can with water that comes out of the gutters on my roof, and not the other stuff that goes down the poop chute!
They can have the brown water to themselves - I promise not to chill my beer with it!
Cheers,
TL

Clearly, you're just not committed to the cause...Trough Lolly wrote:I hear you James, but I'm only interesting in doing the best I can with water that comes out of the gutters on my roof, and not the other stuff that goes down the poop chute!

To be fair, I suspect that we all think we are doing what we can/should do to ease the water shortage. I had a truly funny something to add here, but something in my peripheral vision made me forget *everything* ...
