MattR wrote:Hi guys,

All this 40 degree weather we are having in Adelaide is killing me (and the brew). So I invested in an ADLO THF to use with an old chest freezer I found.

I kicked off a brew Friday and opened the freezer today to check and was over powered by the gas that has built up inside from the fermentation process.

Is it dangerous to leave the lid closed? Is it a fire hazard?

Cheers,
Matt
Nah, the gas is a fire retardant (CO2), but nice fumes huh?

Only Hazardous if you get trapped in there

and yes, kids have been trapped in them before and died

before you go out and buy that Fridge, kill two birds with the one stone.

this is now my Project for '06.

Great idea, but takes it's footprint is a bit big for my taste. If it were me I'd use a vertical freezer and install a strong shelf to spilt it.
yeah.. i was thinking of incorporating the whole thing into a Bar, either by using the lid with a tower or leave the taps in their present spot and extend off the other end of the freezer at a 90* angle, a bit of timber, a few stools etc......

and whalaaa, a Bar.
An excellent idea!!

Hey just an idea for those wanting beer fridges , i'm a fridgy and as far as my knowlede goes freezers running as fridges have a tendancy to fail due to running at the wrong design refrigerant pressures. So if you want medium temp range (-4 to 10) you need a medium temp compressor.

just to add on that ,

the idea above on placing the themostat probe in water as a great idea as long as the water is on the same shelf or level as the fermenter , as this gives correct product temp

You can due this with some help of someone you knows electrical circuits well. With a freezer like this it sounds like it would be frost free which means you would have intervels of defrost time . It might be a good idea to piss that off and the current thermostat . Get a thermostat that works at tempretures you want. Its a freezer do'nt forget.

good luck

cheers

Ladies!

Have found this link for a temp control unit, bugger all pics though so it's a bit hard to see if it's suitable. Any ideas?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DIGITAL-TEMPERAT ... dZViewItem

Thought the price is okay though? Anyone have a link for the jaycar unit? I've searched their site but can't find anything.

Buying a brewing fridge soonish so I'm going to need some control. (No, I am not buying an Adlo controller, the missus is going to spit enough about the 4th fridge let alone a hundred dollar switch!)
