Hmmm I can see the ACA headline now "Compo conman pleasures self". Just make sure you watch out for hidden cameras.

Still haven't learned that drinking and all forms of telecommunication do not mix.

A stubby of Brew Dog Punk IPA. I love it. It's heavy on the Nelson Sauvin which I like, although I know there are some who hate it!
It's possibly slightly better on tap, but still great in the bottle.

The second-last bottle of an almost-7-year-old Coopers Ginger Beer, brewed with 1.2kg raw sugar. It's got that terrible artificial sweetener tang. Hopefully this is also my second-last bottle of kit "beer", now that I have most of the equipment for AG!
Is it a good thing or a bad thing that the GB tastes at almost 7 years as it did when it was a month old? A bit of a worry I'd say. Goodness only knows what's in it to preserve it like that!

Hmmmm. Three posts in a row in the "What are you drinking now?" thread. Anyone would think I'm an alcoholic
Anyhow, I have just got home from work and am drinking a cider from a batch made from scratch from more than 300kg of apples by a colleague. Some of you may have seen his story about it in The Age's Epicure section. If not, you can read about his exploits
here.
His article finishes:
We tried a bottle in late June and were crushed by the result; it had a strong, yeasty pong on the nose that carried through to the taste and we poured it down the drain. But with 50 bottles in the cupboard, we decided to see if time was on our side.
At a tasting with Graham Ellender last week, we learnt that our processes needed refinement. The cider has a bright apple aroma but a slightly sour, yeasty aftertaste, which, he says, indicates we didn't fully ferment our juice before bottling. It might improve with age but we've already started planning next year's batch.
Well, despite having read the article and his warnings to me that it's not great, I am impressed. While I get some yeast and sourness it's actually a pretty drinkable cider. I look forward to trying next year's effort!

Cracked a bottle of red tonight that my best man gave me as an engagement present some time ago. Been a melancholy week; had both the best news a bloke could get and something up there with the worst.
My great grandmother passed away swiftly yesterday morning. She hadn't been crook at all, her ticker just decided to stop.
I'm toasting her memory tonight. We've a long drive ahead of us on Sunday to get to the funeral and my wife isn't quite able to drink right now so I'm doing the toasting for the both of us.

My condolences to you and your family at least its good way to go quick and painless. It's how I'd wanna go.
On the other hand your missus not being able to drink sounds like a congratulations is due. Well done is it your first?
Cheers,
Paul

Cheers, mate. On both points.
And yeah, will be the first. It's still quite early on and I don't think we're supposed to have told people outside our family yet, but I think I was a bit in need of shouting it from the rooftop yesterday, and posting it here seemed the safer option, considering that I was the better part through a whole bottle of wine at the time.

Yeah sorry for your loss BF. It is a strange circle of life eh?
I was close to my great gandmother. She has been gone 10 years. But when my daughter was born, nearly 6 years ago, it was Nana's face I saw in her first, but only for a few minutes. I love that her blood flows through my kids veins, and I still drink to her memory.
Hope the pregnancy is good for you. It will change you in the best (and most stressful) ways.

Condolences bullfrog and congratulations.
My first is 7 months old (named after my nana who passed away 3 years ago this xmas - we were close) and has her first cold. Crazy how fast she has grown up.

The boys have dropped in, Magners pear cider, Stassen pear cider, Bulmers pear cider, Rekorderlig cider. Will be moving on to home brew English bitters, dark ales and a few milk stouts for bed. Yum but a long might.

Cheers to those that posted. Funeral was tough. That being done I go back to dealing with Pregosaurus Rex

These first trimester hormones are kicking my arse!
Currently drinking Rekorderlig cider - the plain apple one. These guys clearly use flavouring in everything they make.

SNPA from Dan's. Tastes as fresh as those I bought in California...pity it costs twice as much.
