Thanks Rotten, congrats to you too.

Ended up going with the Beer Lao shirt. Chances of me owning an "I'm with stupid shirt" and a functional pair of nuts? Slim to none, of course. It was bloody great to get out without the kids in tow though, let me tell you! Doesn't happen very often.

As for Beer Fest it was mostly centred around mainstream fringe beers like J.S. and Coopers along with some so called Pilseners and lagers. There were a few exceptions however and I particularly enjoyed the Little Creatures and Mudgee stands. The Mudgee wheat beer was outstanding as was their slightly soured brown porter.

Should have known when I wrote this that I was in for some Karma.

We (wifey and I) turned up early for the MKR cooking demo and the J.S. rep was just finishing up. He asked a few questions with prizes attached like where was the original J.S. brewery, who was James Squire, that sort of thing. Then say's "this is a harder one, don't know if anyone will get it. can anyone tell me what hop we use to make our Chancer Golden Ale?" Without thinking I blurt out "Amarillo" and wins me a J.S. Golden ale t-shirt. And I'm not even really a fan of Amarillo. The irony.

Having my first of a new batch of Wit. Threw it together with leftovers including quick oats, wheat bix and kaffir lime in lieu of Curacao orange. Not a meant to be a Hoegaarden clone but my best witbier yet, if I may say so myself.

I look forward to Friday night alot more now that I am studying, as I limit myself to two nights a week drinking.

Just cracked my first ever attempt of a beer with fruit, apricot ale is a winner. Bit light in body but will tweak the recipe next time around and maybe up the fruit content by a kilo in primary and half kilo in secondary.
Sure will quench a thirst though!

Have you posted the recipe already? If not, do soon. I love me a good apricot!

A mug of water and 2 centennial pellets. Read about hop tea being some sort of remedy for an ailment of mine - thought "what a load of crap!" then though "meh, the freezer is full of hops and I love me some centennial". Not all that bad for sipping, haven't been game to take a big mouthful.

Really makes me wish I was having a beer (and that I had some simcoe in the freezer instead).

"Beereopath" sounds more credible than "homeopath," to me, bum. Doesn't mean I'd trust it over a doctor, but I'd certainly trust it over somebody that believed in shakras or astrology.

"Take two Amarillo pellets and a quick belt of Galaxy after eating then come back in the morning."

Dare we start a new angle of new-aged hocum? Reckon Ross could clean up, with the right marketing.

:P

I just sampled my first bottle of Chimay triple with the cream coloured label, a lovely drop, a bit heavy for summer drinking but one to brew shortly for winter drinking, I will do a search for an AG recipe, but at 8% its best to go gently.
I also had a bottle of Daleside Old Leg Over, its not as good as a real leg over but one cant be too choosy, then again Im easy pleased these days.

Hey emnpaul can you put your recipe on here, I have a few bits and pieces in the fridge that would make this one worth a try, including a kaffir lime tree growing in my back yard.

Drinking one of my ESB's at the moment. It has settled in the keg nicely this week. I too aren't drinking through the week any more and very much looked forward to tonight, although it didn't start until 10.30 due to family sporting events.

Feeling most relaxed, not drunk, about now :D

I've been one for not drinking during the week for about the past two years, but this week has been a bit different.

I've found that a good beer or a good cider has been a brilliant pain relief.

...don't tell my physio; the guy butchers me enough as it is without knowing that I've been self-medicating with ethyl alcohol.

Kaffir lime
I got 1 in the yard as well but just use the young leaves in making curry.
Gather you use the rind though and do you use much as it is a very strong / pungent taste.

Nothing.

Just got home from hospital after a rotator cuff decompression and repair of the left shoulder.
Arm in a sling for 6 weeks, physio, pain killers etc etc.

Typing one handed is a bit slow!

You just need practice...

Feel better soon, Warra!

Hey Warra
I went through the same procedure last year, its a long frustrating recovery but hang in there and dont rush it.
Lifting pint glasses will be good physio in a month or two.

Hope you have a speedy recovery, Warra.

...by which of course I mean that I hope it's fast; not that I hope your recovery is obnoxious, barely literate and suffers from an inferiority complex that leads it to brew 400L batches. :P

Speaking of coffee, nabbed me a coffee machine from Aldi today. It's brilliant. Just like my mother-in-law's nespresso machine, only a tenth the price.

And whilst we're also speaking of self-medication; I have found that I have exponentially more movement in my recently buggered neck when I've experimented with treating myself with ethanol.

...home-brewed ethanol has gone down best, so far. :)

I just scrolled up and saw that I'd already made a comment about self-medicating with ethanol...

...perhaps I'm sufficiently "medicated" for this weekend and should go to bed.

Or, more sensibly, you're still concussed and really do need more medicine.

By the end of the mug I was almost enjoying it - to the point that in the heat today I was wondering what a bigger, iced version might be like (can't (or won't, more correctly) have a beer for a while so pursuing other options). Having a glass of iced hop tea right now but this time it is three pellets each of centennial, columbus, citra and ekg. I just poured boiling water on them this time instead of boiling for a few minutes because yesterday's bitterness was a bit rough - this time it is a bit lacking. With a bit of sugar it does taste a little like a cold, pre-yeast sample though. Might play with the idea a bit more if this heat comes back again.

That's what I'll blame the hangover on when I see the doctor in the morning! :P

No joke, though, they told me that I would experience short-term memory loss in the few weeks following the fall. I'm no stranger to walking into a room then wondering why I had gone there (ever found yourself in the wifes' sewing room for no reason? I did it twice yesterday) but the past week I've had so many people say "Yes I know, you just told me," that that alone is going to send me insane.
