UPdate on the campertrailer. Put a deposit on one yesterday. Once you add annex and other bits and piece options it adds up. Will take delivery in late Feb/early March. Went with the Hitchmaster D035 hitch. From reading some forums the hyland has a couple of disadvantages - no shock absorption in the coupling to dampen vibrations to you car, a few people complained of shearing off padlocks when it swivelled beyond a certain point.
Good news on the campertrailer mate,
You may have dodged a bullet then going with the hitchmaster. How much warranty do they offer ?

Warranty is 12 months but that could be the standard for other ones anyway. They are fitted as standard on bushtracker and t-van so should last the distance.

Just bought a tent today.

And some other goodies like a folding table, pantry & a gas cooker.
Planning on using it for long weekends away with the family down SW of WA. I rekon the kids will love it..

Just stumbled onto this thread.
So we do have a few closet campers / Campoven cooks on here.
This was the first forum I got involved with (yes the demise of another!

) It's called Camp Oven Cooking In Australia.
For those interested, there is a wealth of Recipes, ideas & other stuff to see & do. A few of us get together for a bash a couple of times a year, from all over the East Coast.

Off with the caravan in 2 hours to York, WA, back late Sunday.
Van fridge is full of JSAA, happy times ahead.
Going to car museum, and chilling out
(Annual 3 days off)

I've been to that car museum in York. Very interesting. They used to have one of Alan Jones championship winning Williams cars, but I think they may have sold that.
Mrs warra's aunt and uncle live not far away, in Grass Valley.

We are big campers. We started out with a $39 dome tent in the boot of our crappy old car.
This is where we are up to now
This is our full set up (some people might think a 12 man tent is overkill for a nuclear family)
and for Bush/Free camping we travel a bit lighter
Important things I have learned:
Coleman make excellent products.
OzTrail make very good products.
Waeco make very good products.
Spinifex/Anaconda are make very poor products

This is our 2-4 day setup for the six of us. Any longer trips tend to involve a second vehicle , second quad and boat. We are swags, skeeterdomes and tarp type folks, have a big mother tent and hate it...I find it too restricting ( and hot ) on where you can pull up in our local country. Most of the time we camp on the river banks, and there is rarely enough flat ground...

My Easter camping weekend.
Hold Control & scroll to adjust size.
That's my tent in the foreground. None of this caravan stuff around here.

The river was luscious.

The poor people with their commercial beer. My cousin has no beer in his hand as he is waiting for me to pour him one.

Our Easter setup once the crowds had died down a bit. Big Crystal creek north of Townsville
River was also lovely for swimming as it was quite hot during the day
No open fires allowed so camp oven cooking was via heat beads.
Bacon and chees damper, mmmmm
No beer photos but it was there.

Nice spot that Earle! Lovely looking river. We had great weather as well, but it was chokers with people. The place we were going to go to was washed out. A shame, as it is quite peaceful there. But your river looks ace!

When we got there this place was chockers as well with no space for us. Fortunately the rangers were there when we arrived so they organised some people to move their cars so we had somewhere to camp. Fortunately a lot of people only stayed for a night or two so after a couple of days its really quietened down.

Sonny,
That spot looks suspiciously like the foot hils to Barrington?
Mick.

It is Mick, well almost. It's Bretti Reserve. (Thunderbolts Way)
We had plans to do a quiet part of Chichester Forest, but due to the weekend's prior downpour or rather, mass soaking it proved almost impassable, albeit camp-worthy. So we waddled further north to our old favorite in hope of a decent spot of land.
We found it up high.

All you guys looked so cramped at your sites. I didn't take any pics as i left technology at home, but our campsite was awesome !!
Right on the Mighty Murray, Miles from anywhere, plenty of yabbies, open fire, and best of all, NO PHONE COVERAGE
Cheers

and are you going to share that info Rotten?
I went for ride into Victoria about 6 weeks ago. We saw a lot of camping places and vans along the mighty Murray, although it wasn't holiday time. Anywhere awesome and possible for travel from NSW for a camp is always good to know. It's a lovely state Victoria, it's just the weather that I find disheartening at times.

I will share this much, I was on the NSW side of the river this time, just over the border. Lat year was the Vic side of the river, just over the border. Doesn't matter which side really, it's all good.
