Does any one know where i can get a large SS stock pot from at a cheap price in Brisbane?
What size would you recommend for single batch all grain brewing?
Does it matter if the pot base is thin?
I am currently in Brisbane however will be moving to Toojay, WA in the future.

I searched heaps for a decent pot, and ended up buying one at the home brew shop.
You are probably best getting a decent stainless one with layered copper base.
In WA you could try Brews 2 You or TWOC, but there are others probably closer to 'Toojay' (Toodyay).

You will regret getting a cheap pot that you will forever stress about scortching your wort with.

I use a 36 Litre pot, cost me about 250, but worth it.

I have a Robinox from TWOC and a Host, very happy with both. Host is in Myaree WA, TWOC is in Bibra Lake WA.

I agree with Grog, not worth getting a cheap pot.

I am working on a bit of a budget.
If the thickness of the pot was the same all over could you use a metal plate underneath to disapate the heat to avoid the wort burning?

yep, that would be better than flames direct onto a thin base...

I have an 80 litre aluminium pot which i have used for a while now and i love it, i know some will argue but i cant fault it for under $200 , also have a 40 litre one which i started with that has done many many many brews ( insert Comandant lasard voice) and is still in great nik and still gets used, pretty sure from memory that it was just over $100!! both from my local HBS but they are also a supplier of chefs equipment so anywhere with that sort of gear would be sure to have em!!!

Another option, if you are working on a serious budget is to use an old keg.

If you keep your eyes open, and are ready for a little DIY work then it is an easy way to get a 50L pot for peanuts.

I have done quite a lot of looking around and the cheapest I have seen is $165 for a brand new SS 36L pot but I don't know how thick the bottom is, other wise the local camping store has the thin bottom type for $99.
I have also considered doing the keg, but I am unsure where to buy one from and the price may be more than I want to pay.

I believe many people "buy" kegs from out the back of the local pub. Very speedy transactions.

I didn't go down the keg road - I bought a stainless Robinox stockpot and it is great. If you can find one of them in your budget you will not regret it.

I've got a 50L keg which I got from a guy on AHB. $50 with a spigot welded in & the top cut out. If you want his details let me know. He's over here in Perth.

Ring Craftbrewer - they have masses of stock that isn't on their website as a lot if it isn't really postable or courierable and I'm sure I've seen pots of all sizes in there - I was amazed to see they will even sell you a 30L fermenter or a big Betta Bottle - don't forget they aren't just an online store, they are also a walk in shopfront.
