Beer Gut

OK I am getting right into this home brew lark now, and really enjoying myself.
I am averaging probably 2 x 740ml bottles a night and have noticed that I am starting to have to loosen my belt a notch a two.
Anyone else having this problem?
Anyone found a balance between home brew and staying thin?
If so what's your program?
Cheers,
Fatty

The Program....
Brew beer, watch beer, invent more beer, bottle beer, watch bottle, invent beer........
DRINK BEER
then
Get yourself a couple of small to medium dogs that insist on a 2-3 km run daily otherwise they will harass the shit out of you.
result
no beer gut

Great post silkworm. The very reason my wife has got us/me an Aussie Blue Heeler, cattledog. No excuses for lack of exercise, no excuses for giving up my homebrew !!

it's not the beer that causes the gut, it's all the crap you eat when drinking!
switch to low fat snacks and see what happens.
according to something I saw the other day on , I think, Current Affair, there's less calories by volume in beer than in wine!!!
maybe you've got a wine gut!!

That may be true, Grab, but the problem is one tends to drink a lot more beer, by volume, than wine
I think I have read that drinking alcohol and eating fatty food at the same time will increase your chances of putting on fat, as the liver has a hard time concurrently dealing with fats and alcohol - it tends to concentrate on processing booze and lets the fat through to the keeper. Or something like that.
So maybe we should follow the suggestion of low-fat snacks.

Exercise, exercise, exercise.
I hit the gym 3 days a week, play indoor soccer on Wed. outdoor soccer on Saturdays (Seasons over now) so I play golf or basketball now.
I prefer to burn off the calories from beer, rather than give them up. But replacing the bag of chips with something like walnuts and some kiwi fruit cant hurt either.

I agree with thehipone. Except the bit about golf - dislike the game strongly.

Much as I'd love to say it's mid 30's and newly 'sitting' office type work...I'm thinking about how much DME I'm adding to a brew every fortnight.
If that was sugar in coffee...
I guess I'm impress that I've only gained 10Kg in the last 10 years. By rights..you should be able to rename me Moby!

Truthfully lifes to short and with three kids I see no need to sacrifice the taste of my brew to shed a few pounds just to try and impress a piece of tail.
My missus works in long term care with the elderly and no offence folks, if I get hit by a bus at 85, thats cool with me. Imagine the misery of living from 85-death with limited pints available.
The best story my wife has involves a gentleman who had a gastro feeding tube in because he couldn't swallow. My wife used to give him a couple of beers through the G tube when she could and he would belch and smile and say it was the only way he could taste it.
The shitty part is it was only my wife that would do this. Everyone else though it didn't matter.

For those of us who are starting to sink deeper into the couch with a sigh and mild resignation of the enevitable aging and slowing of our bodies, stop, take comfort in the following link to a brighter future! (although I conceed it might be somewhat biased)...

Read an article saying the same as Grab's thoughts except it included milk and juice alongside wine.
Also read that it decreases chances of heart problems. In basic terms, the beer makes it harder for fat to be deposited in your arterys(spelling?).

The maths is pretty simple. If you consume more calories than you burn off through activity you will put on weight.
So if your beer is providing all your daily calorific needs, cut out the other calories - like vegetables.
A beer in each hand is a balanced diet I'm sure.
Cheers,
Greg.

right looks like it's time to have an ale on the wheeties in the morning then!

Just have the ale and skip the wheaties. The ale has all the goodness of natural barley and hops.
I'm not sure how you'll go putting ale in your coffee though.
