Please note the lower case 's' in the subject heading.
We have, in various posts, mentioned women, be they partners, or commercial brewers trying to attract thier purchasing so I reckon the questions, below, are fair.
But first by way of explanation; we, generally, (but not the French) tag most objects as being male or female, eg, ships are shielas and so's the moon - things like that I mean ......... but, I can't recall conversations about our favourite subject 'beer' consistantly being referred to by gender.
It'd be high praise if on first tasting one of my brews some bloke said, "She's a ripper, Mate." - although I know they are.
So, getting to the questions:
1. Is beer male or female?;
2. Do you know any female homebrewers?; and
3. What are thier preferences?
There is a reason for asking (other than mouth-over-foot avoidance), and that is I'm wondering about making a brew aimed at the occasional woman who comes to my BBQs.

OK Rain, I will break the ice.

1. I have found here in Canada that beer tends to be sexless. It is beer and is like a tree, neither male nor female. I have found that people like to pluralize it to beers every now and then and I am not sure of the correct gramatical method of doing that. ie, I bought a case of beer (24 beer as they are all the same brand so not plural) vs I bought 24 beers indicating all 24 are different. Oh just idle thought while I contemplate the surface tension of foam on my head

2. I have known two female brewers and a mate of mine knows a third

3. The two I have known tend not to be the liquor pigs that I and most other homers are, (malt, water, hops, yeast, got to be good) and tend to be very fussy over their brewing. I want this and only this and am prepared to wait until you get it. Mind you, the one my mate knows sounds like she can quaff a few and hold her own and not be to fussy.

Hope that helps a bit

Thanks Dogger, and in reply:

Your 1. We buy "a box of stubbies/longnecks", or "a slab of cans/tinnies"; and
3. Would imagine 'ale' in preference to 'bitter'.

I am lead to believe that her ancestral roots are from there, like 6 months removed.

She is coming down with a spent keg for my micro brewery at month end.

1. Is beer male or female? Definitely female.
2. Do you know any female homebrewers? No.
3. What are thier preferences? As I say, I don't know any female homebrewers, but in an ideal world their preference would be other female homebrewers.

WHAT A GREAT QUESTION,
BUT OF COURSE THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE (unlike the cryptic of Olivers)
just compare the effect of BEER on the male species, and it just has to be Female , does'nt it ?.

dab123. Each time I read your post I reach a different conclusion about its meaning.
Sometimes I smile, and other times I gulp, yet again I frown in wonder.

HI Guys,
My grandfather use to say ..."NO such thing as a BAD beer...just some are better than others".
Now when we superimpose this thought into the question...it just doesnt match up.....let me explain.
1. I know some women who are BAD...naughty BAD i mean. So maybe beers arent female?
2. Some are better than others?....TRUE true true.

So...is the old saying correct or are beers female?
I'd like to think we should refer to them as apart of the fairer sex.....but my grandfathers old saying was just being polite about the BAD thing!?
Though i dont think he was remembering a beer as a female down at the the ol Footscray Bowls club back int he 70's & 80's!!??

Beerlovers,

Although this debate seems to have subsided can I say that surely beer is not hampered by the vagaries of gender and its characteristics. Beer is of a higher, divine nature.

Hmmmmm? Not sure of anything much anymore, but I have 'looked' at some very eerie women who definitely appear better after, or through, a few beers.

Didn't Homer Simpson say that a woman is like a beer - cool, refreshing and you can't stop at one.

And what did Hommer know,

I've had beer and I have had women. The beer has always done what its supposed to.
