Hi all,

I've just started this hobby, with a Starter Kit from my local HB store, and I'm using a Coopers Pale Ale Kit, with Brew Enhancer 2, and the yeast that came with the kit.

I've got a question regarding temperature, I've been getting temps of between 20-25 degrees depending on the time of day, and I was wondering if these temps will make my brew taste funky or anything.

Also, should the fermenter be out of the light? I've read that light spoils beer. Does this apply to all stages, or only bottle conditioning (hence the brown glass).

Temps sound fine ................ maybe a bit high

I prefer to keep the fermentor out of direct light ........... no science, that's just me

Wrap in with a towel, ice on top ................ solve the light & temp probs at the same time

I'd try and keep the temperature around the 20C mark, but it's not going to kill your beer if it's a bit higher. Try and keep the fluctuations down, though. Put the fermenter in the coolest part of the house and wrap a blanket or quilt/doona around it. This will keep some heat in but also insulate it against the highs and lows of ambient temperature.

Light kills beer, so always keep your fermenter (when it's got beer in it and provided it's light-permeable plastic) out of direct light. Any light.
